Agreed. So on that basis, what on earth was the club thinking when they decided to put out the leak?

They couldn’t possibly have thought it would go down well, surely? Are they really that out of touch?
I think they are. There is nothing to gain by doing that. And already the press are questioning it as per JPB Twitter link above. Rightly so too. We’re a mess everywhere it seems even the PR team unless levy running that too. He’s spinning many plates

The big criticism of Levy appointing Conte was that Conte clearly had demands that the club could not satisfy. Conte needed certain players, that cost a lot of money and that was pretty clear upfront. Levy appointed him knowing what he needed, and couldn't (for whatever reason) give Conte what was required. Which led to the (fair) question, why the hell appoint a manager like Conte if you can't/won't give him what he needs to succeed?

If the club have contacted Nagelsmann and listened to what he would need and made the decision that they cannot meet his demands and give him what he wants - surely it is better to be upfront and move on to another candidate than appoint him anyway and not give him what he has asked for?

If it's true Nagelsmann is out of the running, it's disappointing. But, I'd rather the club were honest and aligned with whoever we bring in.

And thats all well and good. But they have said they had no intention of speaking to him at all. If they did talk to him and couldnt agree, move on and get your manager without this bullshit PR. If you didnt speak to one of the stand out candidates then thats even worse.

Whichever way this is looked at it is not good. Whether it ends up as the right decision is a separate matter.

I wonder if it's something to do with all the noise around nagelsmann at the moment and so if/when someone like Slot is appointed it will appear like a massive disappointment with lots of negativity from the fans. Maybe they're just getting that news out early so when Slot or Ange are appointed the fans aren't thinking about nagelsmann. Slot wins the league this weekend I think.

I'll be honest I don't think this is Nagelsmann turning us down, more that Levy doesn't see it as workable. He won't have the structural demands with say Slot or Mason that he had from JN.
Whilst not surprising this is definitely saddening. Elite level manager telling the club the tools and structure needed to make the job successful, however it all falls down when the club have a completely different definition of success.

And here's the line which made Spurs desperately try and get ahead of Nagelsmann saying he pulled out.
How can our board be so clueless to think people would believe their amateurish attempt to control the narrative

"However, it was indicated to Mail Sport on Friday night that Nagelsmann was not convinced by the direction the club intended to head this summer and has decided to withdraw."

So the direction could be a DOF he wasn't keen to work with or something?

I'd rather he pulled out now than take the job and it blows up in everyone's faces down the line.

Honestly I'm at the point where I'm laughing at how badly we appear to be run.
I'm beyond being angry/frustrated now.

There is no fucking way Nagelsman would think Spurs is his "level". The bloke was so arrogant Bayern gave him the flick. Appointing him would be Conte fucking lite. Mourinho showed more interest in being a Spurs manager than either of them. Our next manager has to WANT TO MANAGE SPURS. Isn't this fucking obvious?

Christ Spurs fans are our own worst enemies sometimes. BillieT on Twitter moaning like a bitch for someone who would spit on us if given the opportunity.
This was my gut feeling but I never wanted to say out loud cos I liked the thought of him. We've shown we're not good with this type in the past

I realistically think Slot, Enrique, Amorim, Ange, (due to Munn), Alonso or Mason are the options now.

Don’t see Amorim happening if £20m buyout clause is true though.

Slot wants the job and I think it’ll be him.

Will come as a league winner, not expensive, attacking football and won’t be demanding.

I think we will get back to targeting young players again.

Supporting Spurs in the 90s was easy because we knew we were shit and expectations were at that level.

Whichever way you look at it ENIC have NOT delivered on the footballing side, by any objective measure.

How do you work that out? Have we improved on the footballing side from the shit mid table side we were in the 90s?

Then the club should put that out, or say nothing at all.

Not gaslight us with nonsense.

It's just one embarrassment to another.
People may get angry when I say this but no one is trying to gaslight you. You may be getting too involved in this process whilst being completely outside it.

You're not supposed to trust announcements by the club or by journalists or information from itk.

We don't know whether Nagelsmann is a major jerk, whether Bayern Munich are being unreasonable about his contract. We don't know if we are actually considering mason, or whether Mason is actually the most impressive candidate behind the scenes. We don't know whether they made their mind up re. Slot months ago and are saying nothing about it.

The more you start to believe all the things you hear the unhappier you'll become. Hell, its wise to reserve your judgement even after we appoint someone. We might appoint nagelsmann and he flops and we might appoint brendon Rogers and he's great. This has happened before - more than once.

If we form too strong an opinion based on rumour and appearence we'll lose objectivity for what is actually happening.

My prediction... we leaked the JN news in such a way now cos by Sunday Feyernood should win the league. It then gives enough space and time between letting everyone know we were never keen on JN so that Slot can be announced middle of next week in a way that doesn't disrupt Feyernood and appears that Slot was clearly always our first choice, which might always have been the case but we needed to manage this JN drama which definitely intrigued us and took us away from Slot for a little bit.

I heard a while ago that there's something about Nagelsmann that they don't like and won't take the risk on him. Not had an answer about what that is, whether personal or professional. I've also been told Slot is the top choice and has been for weeks now. Just football friends gossiping, all Chinese whispers, so who the hell knows what's going on really outside of the boardroom.

Nagelsmann was always going to be a big ask. Would anyone trust Levy to back a project that Nagelsmann would demand?

I want Mason to win the next 3 games, then continue winning every game we play next season. If we play poorly in the last 3 games then fair enough he might not be up to it, but wanting that to happen is silly.
We should not be basing our next appointment on the outcome of 3 games. If the club have decided Mason is the man to take us forward how we perform in our last three games should have no influence over that decision. If it does then it means we aren’t completely convinced in his ability.

Personally I don’t think Mason should be in the conversation for our next manager position, but if he is then club need to be 100% behind his appointment regardless of how he performs in the short term. It would be naive to believe a manager with so little experience wouldn’t hit a good number of speed bumps next season if he got the job and the club can’t be second guessing him the minute we do.
