Technically he has been a part of the club for 20 years in some aspect whether that is a player or as a coach (his spell at Hull before the injury aside). He will understand this club better than most out there. He came through the academy alongside Kane and they both know what this club should be about. Noboy has to tell him what Tottenham Hotspur fans expect from the team in terms of style, because he knows what we want.

He needs to go and get experience sure, but he knows what this club's culture should be.
Was talking in a managerial or coaching role. They say insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Yes he knows the club, but in his time here would you say we’ve had a winning mentality? I just think we need to align from Munn to DOF to Manager to youth teams and that means moving away from what we’ve been doing

I think Mason will be our permanent manager one day but the club is a shit show at the moment and needs a more experienced manager to steady the ship.

It'll probably be like that until the season ends. Until then there'll be clickbait stories about Nagelsmann, Slot or whoever else the media dream up, someone will post it, people will then repeat what they said the last time that name came up, it'll die down, the next repeat will come, people will post what they said the last time that name came up, people will again post their preferred 1,2,3's, currently, JN, Slot, Mason is the ratings catcher on that one.

It's a thrill a minute. Losing this thread will actually make me wet.

Then the transfer and ITK forums open properly and it's all over there for some real megamind stuff :woot:
It was ever so………..

If Levy is going nowhere then a clear advantage with Mason is he already has an understanding what Levy is like and how he opetates.

The last thing we want is more politics going on between a head strong manager and Levy.

If we can't get JN, who should be clear first choice, I'd seriously consider Mason.

Let's see how we finish the season...he has a couple more games to add weight to that consideration.

Whilst I don't think Mason should be first choice, I don't think you'd need to go too far down the list of favoured options as manager before you'd think why not Mason, rather than those further down.

He knows the club, and it's playing philosophy very well. He's played under a lot of different managers at different levels of the game and has learned from them. He has been temporary Manager/Coach with Spurs twice now and has improved the team's performance, and playing style, on both occasions. He seems to have the support of the 1st team squad. He comes across as being a calm thoughtful coach who is quite prepared to change the team formation during a game, with good effect.

As I said, I don't think he should be first choice, but I think he has more going for him than some on here are giving him credit for.

If Nagelsmann is not available, I wouldn't be disappointed at all if we do appoint Mason.

The thing is Nagelsmann is available and it really is a golden chance not to pass up. I hope Mason can understand, and I think he does, if Nagelsmann is given the job ultimately.

Yea and the team that gave an inexperienced Nagelsmann a shot was a very desperate team knee deep in a relegation scrap taking one last roll of the dice.

We obviously aren't elite in the sense of trophies and glory but we are in terms of facilities, earnings, and value. What are we like the 9th most valuable club in the world? Massive infrastructure for someone with 0 experience to navigate
I think some of you are blinded by the fact he has no first team experience to be honest. The football world is littered with coaches who have had no real first team experience that have done brilliantly in their first real job. Ability is the most important factor and experience is something you learn along the way. If he's good enough he's old enough. Again there are other reasons I don't think he should get it, but I don't agree with why so many are writing him off.

A lot of people seem to assume that if Mason got the job, his staff would remain as is, Wells & Gibbs. He only had a couple of days to put a backroom team together, presumably he'd want to add to it.

Would people's views change more favourably if Mason added someone experienced, like a Martin Jol, to his coaching staff? Would that alleviate some concerns?

We have deeper problems as a club besides the manager. Can anyone of you Mason In guys see him changing the culture at this club? We need a reset not a continuation of the same. Remember Mason has been here since Mourinho 3/4 years

Exactly this.

Mason has been a constant through years of abject uselessness (not saying any of this is directly his fault, obvs.), but if we need a change of culture then that surely means it's time to remove him from any lists going forward. I get that he's suddenly become an addictive hybrid of Bill Nicholson and Alex Ferguson in some people's eyes, but we need to get serious about what the club needs. Mason's ongoing 'success' with the club strikes me as sentiment personified. We'll be name the stadium after him at this rate...

I'm not sure why some are confusing the reason that I and others are suggesting not appointing mason as Manager means (that I) am suggesting it has to be an absolute 'elite' coach. This is not so in my case. I feel it needs to be the right person for the role. I'm not sure Ryan is right just at the moment.
At the same time though saying you would be happy with Mason does not mean he is your number one target. Nor does it mean we believe he should be given the role outright. I still believe he should go somewhere lower (I would love to see him at Crawley) and work his way up.

He shouldn't be top of the list, probably not even top 5. But if he was to be given it, at least we have a person who knows the club inside and out.

Alonso is apparently staying at Leverkusen

The list is narrowing down now.

TBF until we actually make a move for him what else would they say. But that being said I think its very unlikely he will be our target. At that point I could actually see us going with Mason. I think at the moment we know our top two targets are Nagelsmann + Slot and I think it seems increasingly clear we want to get a DoF in first ideally. Which is the right move IMO. But I also think people like Mason and Alonso will be on the list as back up options if JN and Slot don't happen for whatever reason.

POK says nothing will be announced until after the season so let's strap in for the ride until June boys

My concern is not so much we wait until the the season ends to announce it, its not that surprising especially if the DoF and/or manager are currently contracted to other clubs. Where I start to worry is if this drags on until July which knowing us it could well do.
