We would be asking him to step in and game by game try his best to win each one of them. That basically is what we ask every manager to do. We canโ€™t ask or expect any more from him than that.
He has no control over the other teamโ€™s results. Newcastle and Brighton win their games in hand they go above us regardless of how well we do.

Sure, I just donโ€™t think that weโ€™d have much success like that, regardless of sentimentality.

The pros for him are relatively small as well, if he does well he likely goes back to being an assistant here at best as weโ€™d probably want to keep him and he likes being here, if he does poorly then heโ€™s further away from being a professional manager than he is now.

I just hope any manager coming in is willing to get invested in a long term project, on a long contract and as such is keen to start straight away in order to ensure we have CL football in their 1st full season.

I'd like 6 months off work but I can't. Shit to get done.

If you don't think that the financials matter, it's probably time to remind people that we still have to pay for Porro and Kulusevski this summer. That is ~ยฃ80m before we even begin to think about new players.

I shudder to think what our summer transfer business will look like without CL qualification. As it is, we are going to be more of a seller than a buyer, even with CL - unless we get significant investment from ENIC or a 3rd party...
Why do people keeping spout this nonsense. We are not paying 80M for Porro and Kulusevski this summer. We will be paying the 1st installment of their transfer fee this summer which will be nowhere near 80M.
The money from CL qualification would be very helpful but I still maintain that we make enough money from the stadium to be able to compete in the transfer market without CL money.
Arsenal have spent more than us over the last few years without having CL money. Itโ€™s not that we donโ€™t have the money to spend on transfers itโ€™s that Levy uses too much of what we do have on investments in the property side of the business.

Why do people keep getting this confused?

We pay installments on all transfers.

So, this summer we will owe on lots of players... not just the ones we have not purchased yet.

But, the difference between Porro and Kulusevski - those payments are not yet accounted for (in an accounting/budget sense) - until we take up the options. So, that money will be the same as if we went out and bought Porro and Kulusevski this summer - not that we pay for the entire transfer this summer.
