I don’t feel much outrage. Obviously we’re going to spin it. Obviously no doubt he will too, whilst he collects his Munich wage still.

Every slight (perceived?) negativity is blown so far out of proportion at the moment.

I was quite enjoying Spurs again tbh.
Great post maté completely agree!! You, @Tucker and a few others are trying to keep the majority calm and sane.

There are still plenty of very good options out there, some of which who are probably actually a better fit for us anyway.

But no Naglesman is off the table and the club is a ‘shambles’ and ‘clueless’.

As you say any snippet of info is being jumped on and reacted to so negatively and people are pouring petrol ⛽️ onto the flames 🔥 !

It’s really not the end of the world and it probably was never that likely we’d end up with him anyway.

Slot, Big Ange, Mason and a number of others could all be a very good fit for what we need and same as you I was starting to enjoy the club a bit again, this OTT negative reactions isn’t healthy.

UNLESS Slot has been one of our top options all along and has given big encouragement he'd come.

Considering he had been competing on a number of fronts until recently, and they need to tie up the championship this weekend, I could see why we would be patient.

I think many of us felt that Nagelsmann had jumped to the front of the queue.

Regarding Poch, I'm pretty sure with the DOFs we are being linked with Poch would not fit in with that.
I don't think i really want Poch anyway but it is frustrating when it appears to be a scattergun approach. For me we have to get the DoF in first but that's quiet as well. Need them in early doors to ensure that the summer is not wasted.

It's a cliché, but unless the people at the top change, it doesn't matter who's in charge. I feel like we have these conversations every 2 years. "Levy's got to get the next appt right!" etc. I won't really get excited whoever comes in. Until I see actual changes to how we're run.

At this stage might as well let AI run the club

Gotta say I disagree with that. We are a big club. Not up there with the RM's, United's of this world, but we are a big club. That we constantly get told we're the biggest underachievers in football suggests that we are. By definition, to underachieve you must first be a big club. A small club doesn't underachieve with winning titles etc. Pundits bang on about how big Newcastle are... when did they last win anything if it's determined by trophies? Now if you're a millennial and you think football only began in the PL era then I can understand why you might think that.
Been here for the long haul buddy; I remember crying my eyes out the day we got relegated. But as to the point being discussed, I always try and look at things without my Spurs-tinted spectacles on. JN is, rightly or wrongly, considered to be an elite coach. If he believes he is, I don’t see how we were ever on his radar. Sure, we could pay him buckets of cash, but in terms of stature, we’re pretty mediocre. And I‘ve never bought into the underachiever narrative. That’s just shit the idiot pundits spout.

So the progress goes - he has admirers, he's on the list - been that way for years. Wanted him before he went to Bayern, we know this

24th March:
"The Tottenham Hotspur hierarchy would like to speak to Julian Nagelsmann about becoming their head coach next seasonand has been placed among Tottenham’s candidates to succeed Antonio Conte" "Tottenham were first interested in appointing Nagelsmann as Pochettino’s successor in November 2019"

Want to contact him, have wanted him for years

27 March:
"Daniel Levy ramps up Tottenham manager search with Julian Nagelsmann his No 1 choice"

24th April:
"Julian Nagelsmann would want a summer move and a decisive say in transfer dealings if he is to consider moving to Tottenham Hotspur."
"The long-time chairman will make a strong attempt to persuade the German. "

Levy wants him, he wants a say in transfer dealings

26th April:

"BILD knows: Nagelsmann is very keen to take over the Spurs for the new season. Nagelsmann is now concentrating on this option. He would be interested in the task. If Tottenham meets Nagelsmann's demands, the German coach could work on the island in the coming season "

Nagelsmann is keen, demands such as having a say in transfers, DoF he agress with

27th April:

"Tottenham have listed Nagelsmann as one of their favoured managerial options, and made contact with him before he pulled out of the running to become the Chelsea manager. Other options include Kompany, Slot, Mason"

Rangnick being a wingman and bigging up the Spurs job, lots of potential, they've worked together before and I assume get on with each other. Club contacted him

"Exclusive: German is high on wanted list but there is a limit to what Spurs will pay to compensate for his Bayern deal "

Club want him, might not want to pay what Bayern want to get him though

2nd May:
Nagelsmann has previously gone on record to speak of his admiration of Spurs in the past. "[I've followed Tottenham closely] since Pochettino was there," he said during his RB Leipzig days. "He's a really good manager, his team was great to watch."

Nagelsmann talks up the club and the job

5th May:

"Tottenham/Levy pushing more and more! Further talks took place in the last days. #COYS are a serious option for him. His opinion: Big club! Big potential! ➡️ But he wants to know exactly: How much power does he get in transfers? And it’s still unclear who will be the new managing director of football after Paratici. "

Levy wants him, but he wants a say in transfers, DoF lined up

6th May:

"German is Daniel Levy's main target but Spurs might have to pay Bayern Munich more than £10 million "

"Julian Nagelsmann remains top of Tottenham list as new coach. He isn’t prepared to advance to the crucial stages of the negotiations until he knows who's going to be the Director of Football"

Club might have to pay for him and he wants to agree on the DoF before joining

Now after all that:
12th May:

"Spurs do not intent to meet with Julian Nagelsmann and he is not currently a contender for the manager’s job "
"Julian Nagelsmann is not being considered as a candidate for the vacant head coach post and the club insist they have not met with him and do not intend to."

Now local reporters have been briefed that the club haven't contacted him and in fact don't want him

So let me get this straight:
* The club are admirers of him and have been for years.
* He is on the list
* He is at the top of the list
* The club have contacted him
* He would be interested in the job

After all that, one of the best young managers in world football with a football philosophy that'd suit the club down to the ground and you don't consider him, haven't met and don't want him in the first place?

The requirements to get him, which have stayed consistent from all sides every single time they've been mentioned from fairly reliable sources are:
* He has to have a say in transfers
* He wants to know the DoF and I assume think he can work with them
* Have to pay Bayern a decent wedge - £10m+

Which aspects do you think have been failed here - money (buying out contract), giving up power (letting him have a say in transfers) or competence (no DoF after not having any contingency plan for Paratici)?

Joke of a club, upper management are incompetent

*Also instead of dealing with this with grace this response makes the club look incredibly petty and unprofessional, you've made the club look even more of a joke and showed potential managers you're not a good place to work at because of it. Well done

And here people were saying you wanted your mate Mason to get the job…

I think that some of our fans are massively under appreciating the fact that Ryan Mason totally gets it in terms of the clubs DNA, values and what the club needs to be a success.

Honestly why would he be any more of a risk than say Xavi Alonso or Slot or Almorim etc etc etc, if anything he’s less of a risk.

I’m honestly really really warming to the idea of Mason if we can’t get Slot.

📦 📦 📦 📦 📦 ☑️ ☑️ ☑️ ☑️ ☑️
  • He knows the club
  • He knows the group of players
  • He knows the youth system and will develop those players and give them a chance
  • He will take every competiton seriously
  • He will try to play a style of football that us fans want to see
  • He relates to and understands the fan base and could get them onside quickly and build momentum
  • He gets on very well with Kane
  • He must have a half decent relationship and understanding of how Levy works
  • He’s shown he is well respected by the players
  • He’s shown he can motivate the players
  • He’s shown he’s good tactically
  • He’d be completely committed and dedicated to the club and the job long term
  • He speaks well and would get the whole club pulling in the same direction again

Id ask others to name one other manager on ‘the list’ who can tick anywhere near as many of these boxes as Mason does.

This has been brewing.

The chaotic process of 2021.

The lack of any contingency plan for Paratici or Conte despite having a 6 month head start of knowing this may be the case.

Now the lack of transparency and trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

The club were happy to leak that we were in talks when they thought it was good PR, and distracted from Poch going to Chelsea.

Now they're pretending to the same journos that he was never a candidate?

As disappointed as I am it's not JN - the reasons behind why it won't be him, and the clubs attempt to hide those reasons trouble me even more.

Levy wants a DOF / Manager who will accept less autonomy over transfers, whilst being lumbered with a squad of misfit toys he isn't prepared to take the necessary hit on.

The reason we even have a squad of misfit toys, is he wouldn't listen to any of the managers telling him he needed to rebuild. He still isn't listening now.

This group of players sell every manager under the bus and they'll do the same to mason when things go wrong which they eventually will do again.

I'm bothered about missing on Nagelsmann, but what really pisses me off is the bullshit being fed to the fans by Levy via the press.

Thing is, why say anything at all. Nagelsmann is one of the top possible candidates out there, saying we aren’t interested in him for some rather tenuous reason doesn’t reflect particularly well on the club imo. Ether we are ignoring our best possible target or the club is telling porkies.

It would have been much more professional to ignore Nagelsmann altogether if he turned us down and focus on our other targets. If Nagelsmann decides to come out with some press release about turning us down so be it, whatever we say isn’t going to make him less credible especially when our line is so unbelievable.
