Gallardo also makes sense with our wingback situation and how he likes to use his fullbacks to provide width. Of course there is more to what he does than set up a team in a certain shape, but reading the article linked a couple of pages ago, I can't help but think that those players that are already struggling will still struggle.

Gallardo's never managed outside of South America and I don't think he speaks English (which was I believe a condition of Poch's appointment?) - would be very surprised if that was Levy's pick.

Does that definitely make him a Paratici pick, though?

I got the impression the managers we looked at prior to Paratici officially starting the job mid-summer were quite different to the ones that came later.

We were 95% set to bring in Fonseca only for Paratici to arrive and veto him. Do we know if the Gallardo links came early or late summer?

Fair point, no idea tbh will have to find the video of romano

Can anyone with good knowledge of Gallardo tell me how he’d possibly line us up next season?

You can denote ? for areas he would probably need new signings.
Tbh its hard to tell because he will want to look at the team and analyse the players and their strengths and weakness. He's extremely adaptable so will at first build the tactic to make the most of what we have. 433 he likes but he could go for a 4312 or even 3 at the back. What i would say is I would expect Porro and Udogie to be liked. I would also expect us to look at a ball playing LCB, a mobile DM/CM (there's been links to Ugarte who i think would fit perfectly) a playmaker and probably a more energetic LWF. I would also expect him to have a good look at Gil, Sarr and Skipp. Devine will probably get looked at closely as well. Essentially i think he would want to prioritise a creative player and more agile players with high work rates further up the pitch. I would also expect a focus on younger players who he can mould into his vision. But i think he is an intelligent enough manager to counter Son and Kane's age with those around them.

He's been learning English and played in the US for a season. He also speaks French so is clearly comfortable with different languages. He may not yet be fluent but he is an intelligent man by all accounts so i don't think it would be that big an issue.

I wouldn't be terribly upset if Poch came back, just because I will always have great affection for the man. But I don't think it would be the right choice. The only manager who would really excite me is Gallardo

Has anyone mentioned the language barrier with Gallardo? And has anyone mentioned that he played in the USA for a season?

Cause I reckon it might finally stick the thousandth time someone mentions this.

😬

Gallardo would be good but I'd be concerned about the language barrier.

As for as I know, he's never played or managed in an English speaking country before.

For once, I feel like the "safe" and logical choice is to appoint Poch and I actually agree with it. It seems that Levy and him know how to work together, maybe both agree they shouldn't have parted ways and I think that is a big head start compared to a different manager. No manager is perfect and Poch certainly has his flaws.

I would be excited by De Zerbi or Gallardo but think either would be tough to bring in due to their own reasons. Agree with others that I could see Gallardo taking the next logical step in Spain with a language barrier (not that it's a total dealbreaker) and De Zerbi would require a compensation to Brighton and there will be surely some who will have doubts after Potter's Chelsea move.

My personal (maybe stupid) opinion is that it doesn't matter who we get in next because I think they will eventually be given the boot if rough patches are hit and replaced by Poch at some point in the future, so might as well get that done and over with now lol.

I would rather get Poch back than miss out on a few "dream" targets and suddenly we're back scrambling for anyone available.
Good point

Did anyone mention that he missed half of the MLS season with a surgery?

Wasn't a "bet he don't even speak the lingo" point (much as it seems it, my bad) - was more I remember Levy being quite insistent on this with Poch (who spoke fine English and just didn't wanna be misconstrued). Aside from that it just seems like a very left-field appointment - would probably be the least-known manager he's ever appointed, no? Not a criticism but doesn't seem to fit his history: club legend, France manager, internal appointment, UEFA Cup winner, FA Cup winner, UEFA Cup winner, internal appointment, impressive PL manager, one of the most famous managers of all time, impressive PL manager, one of the most successful managers of modern times.

I guess it depends on what one considers lesser known. As mentioned prior, he's won South American Manger Of the Year award 3 times and obv 15 club trophies at two clubs. Barca and Monaco amongst others approached him in the past but he didn't want to leave yet. In terms of European success yes of course your are right. But even Pep has talked him up saying "Some things are inexplicable. Every year three coaches are named as the best in the world, and he's never among them. I can't understand it. It's as if there's nothing else in the world apart from Europe." So on the one hand your right when purely looking at Europe but in another sense he has far more pedigree then Poch did when we hired him. I guess it depends on what ones criteria is, im not really sure Spurs have one at this point and thats part of the problem. Whatever the club are looking for in their next manager they would be very foolish, IMO, to not have a very serious look at him as I think he is the sort of manager they would covert after he makes his first move to Europe (which he will this summer i would think) and it would be nice to be proactive this time.
