I wonder when Levy moans about the lack of public funding, he has specifically asked Haringey and/or Central Government to submit an application for some sort of EU Urban regeneration funding, such as this (not necessarily this one, but something similar).

http://europa.eu/legislation_summar...inclusion_fight_against_poverty/g24209_en.htm

I'd be surprised if a company could submit an application, but surely if Haringey and/or central government made an application for funding from the EU they'd stand a chance.

Through this, they could fund the modernisation of the retained historic buildings, the public squares etc.

We as a country give so much to the EU, that surely we could get something back for them to improve one of the country's / capital's poorest neighbourhoods.

I wouldn't have thought they'd miss out on any financial avenue open to them, that sould be page one of the project

Good news from Boris:).

Surely any application for public funding toward aspects of the NDP would have to wait for the final seal of approval from the Secretary of State. No one would commit to spending money on such a project until then, and in our case until the Spurs Board decide which of the two stadia they are actually going to develop. Whilst I accept that the OS bid may have been a backup plan it may be that DL has been a bit too clever!

Nevertheless Boris' decision is good news.:hump:

Couple of points from today's Evening Standard.

West Ham have apparently lined up a supermarket to buy Upton Park for £35m.

Also, whoever is awared the OS will get £35m grant from the Olympic budget to subsidise stadium conversion costs.

I'm not sure the Standard has got its facts right, Matty.

The grant is to convert the stadium back into a 25,000 capacity athletics arena.

According to the GLA report on the Olympic Legacy, which was published in September:

"It has not been clarified whether the ODA’s transformation budget, including the approximately £36 million allocated to the stadium, would be available to fund any plan other than the original plan for a 25,000-seat athletics stadium. The OPLC has said that any proposals have to be capable of attracting funding to cover capital costs for any transformation of the stadium."

It's on P27 of the full report at: http://tinyurl.com/3yos5mg

That's a good point Roynie, I don't see why anyone would want to commit funds to a project that hasn't even been given a go ahead. Once everyone has given their approval to the project then I would imagine people will start offering support to be associated with the project. Hopefully we'll see some developments on this soon.

Ofcourse they can. Otherwise a lot of projects wouldn't have been built, no-one needing public money to complete a project could start it if they didn't know they would be helped and how much roughly that help would be.

Maybe...i'm not an expert in this field! I would imagine though given the current economic climate, people are less inclined to commit to large projects until they know they're going ahead. What with Spurs' interest in the Olympic Stadium aswell maybe there's a sense of "what's the point in being part of the NDP when money is already tight and they're going to bugger off to the Olympic Stadium?".

Newham council are willing to!

Good point!

And it's of the old stadium design....that's not what the Olympic stadium will look like. Do keep up!

Well the thing with Stratford has always been that a Spurs stadium would require tearing that one down and building a brand new football-specific stadium anyway. The Olympic stadium, whether they tear down a tier or two to reduce capacity, is utter shite as a football stadium. Maybe it would be cheaper all the same to build the new stadium at Stratford but that's exactly what would need to happen because the dream of just plonking the team in that OS would quickly turn into a nightmare.

There is no way in a million years they would let a half a billion pound stadium be torn down, if we move to Stratford it would be in the Olympic Stadium, and as you say that would be a nightmare, I'm just at a loss as to how anybody can think this is a good idea.
