I'd rather we went for James McCartney. Not that we have a chance of getting either this window anyway.

I'll be controversial & suggest I'd rather we went for Milner. Such an underrated player, offers the versatility and work ethic that our manager appears to like in a player, and is out of contract in June. Seems he's stalling on signing a new contract at City (I believe it's been on the table for a while?). I'll probably get shot down for this but I've always liked him as a player, and I think he'd benefit our squad greatly.

It would not make sense at all if Soton sold MS now. He's one their - it not the - pivotal player in a team that, half-way through the season, is a serious contender for a CL spot.
Last season Spurs were the only "big" team being seriously after him (due to Poch), but now more and more teams are starting to see the "hidden" qualities of MS...so his price will keep on increasing.
Levy/Spurs stil think delay tactis will in the long run favour them....but not anymore, like in the MS case. If Spurs had been a (bit) more eager to pay a "fair" price I think MS would have been a Spurs player now.
As for MS, he is also doing the right thing I think by staying at Soton - even though they screwed him up last summer over that transfer.

TBH, the more and more it looks like our squad is getting to grips with Poch's methods, the less value I see in Schneiderlin. The big thing for me was that he could be Poch's extension on the pitch and direct others, but it looks like the squad are starting to march to the beat.

As good a player as he is Mitchell will have identified alternatives to replace him at Southampton, and we should go for one of these if there is more value in the deal than what Saints will want, especially if there is an auction for him.

Arsenal need a CDM, desperately. They can offer champions league, obviously something that often helps us they have the London factor, prepared to spend big these days. I can definitely see that happening and I think the term "Spursy" is very appropriate here

Never going to happen in Jan. Rabiot as a short term option with him in Summer is the dream, a dream that will almost certainly not come true.

Completely agree with you coopsie. Think he'd be the absolutely ideal choice for us this window. But unfortunately, despite his contract issues, I can't see City letting him go without an English replacement.

It is possible however, that City insisting on Lampard remaining for the rest of the year may have something to do with Milner refusing on his contract...

Arsenal can offer possibly 1 CL fixture and there is no guarantees they will be in it next season as competition for 4th is fierce.
What they can offer is a competitive wage though.

Lennon-McCartney in midfield?

would this also be an opportunity to sign Harrison (Ellis) from Bristol Rovers and then to complete the set we could have Starkl (Dominic) from Rapid Vienna or Starkov (Maksim) from Krasnodar.

The creativity would of course come from the Lennon-McCartney partnership.

The press would love it.

Since when has Dave Kitson been ITK?

Well, I'm sure he has contacts within clubs purely out of being mates with certain players/staff. However, I can't see how he'd be privy to most transfer dealings.

Milner is refusing a new contract? He should be the number 1 target for CM if true. The last I read (a month back) was Milner saying he will sign a new deal.

He has the right attitude and is at an age where he will probably assist in the development of our younger CM's without hindering their path to the team (long term).

From what I can see on the matter I don't see him "refusing," but apparently the offer has been on te table for about a month now and he's yet to commit. If there's a chance he'd listen to us and maybe drop his salary demands somewhat I think we should bite with the quickness. His skillset, versatility, experience, and class act professionalism would be wonderful with our young squad.

Honestly can't think of any other reason he'd be holding out at this point other than to see what other offers may come in. What we do know is that if he refuses, City will sell. They have the manpower and there's no way they'd let several mil walk away with their FFP restrictions.

Problem is, English clubs can't talk to him until his contract has expired (or City accept a bid), so he could only listen to offers from overseas clubs in Jan.

Personally, I think he is just waiting to include a must play x amount of games clause. The longer he waits the more City panic and the more leverage he has. I reckon he would take a pay cut for guaranteed 1st team footy at the right team (not saying that is us).

That's a good point about that demand from City. Will be a hard bargain for them though in a tight race with Chelsea, and of course the rife demand for them to improve their CL showings. He's played a good amount though, so not unreasonable.

But I agree, I do think he's the kind of player who would take the pay cut to play more. Frankly, I think he might enjoy the opportunity to take on a leader role at Spurs. Lord knows we need one with our "captains" not even playing anymore. Kane has been great for an inspirational player on the pitch, but he's very young and part of why he's doing well I think is because he's defying low expectations, and high expectations in other areas would reverse that psychologically.
