Hey I started in 55 too. Back end of the Duke and Ted Ditchburn in goal. Only 9, went with my brother and we picked an orange box up at a greengrocers in WHL for me to stand on. Sometimes when really packed, and I think we had 70000 in not the 60,000 supposed limit, passed over the heads of others to sit round the edge of the pitch.Oh the (sadly fading) memories of the Lane from way back to 1955 and @Push & Run I have some great memories of Greavsie. 1 always sticks in my mind is him picking the ball up by the dugout and dribbling through the opposition team to score in the Park Lane goal. Red and white striped shirts, could have been Stoke?
Remember John White also such a clever player but, talking of Chopper Harris we didn't do too badly with Dave Mackay.
That Greavsie goal, obviously later on, has always been in my memory, I think the England keeper at the time was in goal for the red and white stripes too. Can't remember if it was Banks. ??
