I love how vocally ambitious he is. So different to Conte who would be constantly managing fans' expectations and if we did win anything it would be a miracle and due to his unrivalled management.

Yeah it gives hope to fans and players, and that’s essentially what helps unify the club.

I always remember that quote from Conte when he said “it could take 10 years for Tottenham to be in a position to challenge for the title” (or words to that effect) and it just ramped up the toxicity around the club even more.

Shocking isn't it. Both fans and players need the belief and confidence to succeed, so that was such a demoralising message to send out.

That's a really weird take, the writer is so bitter in this article.

It seems like he's looking for an angle to criticise Ange and shows clear bias against him.

Not the first for a Guardian article as well, I remember one when Mourhino was at spurs and it was just a hate piece against Jose and had nothing to do with the football at the time.

I'm going to wildly generalise here but there are quite a few writers that just want to follow their bias rather than be subjective (their job btw). I remember listening to the guardian weekly podcast where one of the guys went on a rant about Bielsa and how he was the manager of the year at Leeds, it was bizarre. It's ok to have that opinion but to be so die hard in your views is not really the job of a journalist imo.

Just taking Ally Gold as an example, he is obvious spurs through and through and has his opinions, but he's always very subjective with them. That's how journalism should be.

I don't even mind strong opinions, they actually make things more interesting but they have to be based on something, the writer of this article seems to just dislike Ange full stop.

It's an opinion piece, and very much within his rights to write as a journalist.

The opinion being stupid and making him look like a petty little asshole is another thing.

I actually think we needed that unfortunate period, for the evolution of this team.
Yes, it may have hurt at the time…but it revealed some frailties, it revealed some poor habits and poor decision making under pressure.
On the flip side, it also galvanised the squad, brought everyone closer together and eventually revealed that we could win games even with squad players playing in makeshift roles.

Personally, I think that unfortunate period was priceless. It provided Ange with so many work-on areas in a short spell. And the players responded brilliantly.
Adversity speeds up the learning process…..at least if you’ve got an outstanding coach, that is.

I think that was more to put pressure on the board to invest more in the squad. A lot of the toxicity was actually aimed at Levy by that point. The way we were playing was being blamed more on Levy than Conte. It was made out to be all because Levy didn't get good enough players. "It's the players" was repeatedly said to be the reason.

Now we seem to have built a better team. However Ange has done far better with the players who don't fit his way than Conte did. I think it was always a combination of both. The need for better players but also a better manager to actually coach the squad in a way the fans can get behind.

I don't think it'll happen this season for us, but next season I reckon we will be fizzing.
