Why is there this constant rush to try and "fix" football? If it ain't broke, then don't fix it! We have one of the most competitive and commercially successful leagues in the world, and yet we seem to be going out of our way to keep changing it "for the better".

I cringe at the thought of a concentration of power in the premier league, and think it's abhorant that anyone should agree to this. One vote per club should be the bedrock from which any just and meaningful operation of the premier league is based!
I have no problem with changes. The problem is who is trying to implement the changes and the level of power they want in return.

To put Man City into an elite group of 9 long standing Prem clubs when others have been in longer stinks of their money giving them status over being a long standing, established club.

The rich and poor divide is getting bigger and there is a need for more Money to trickle down to these clubs but giving the top clubs all the power in exchange for this is completely wrong.

Rick Parry of the EFL is the real sell-out here - I wonder what future position the Americans promised him for him to come out with his slimey support for this attempted heist?

Just increased revenues for the EFL clubs would be my guess. 31% of revenues is more than they would be getting now, plus comes with immediate fix to revenue shortfalls for EFL clubs. However that fix should be there anyway, without the power grab.
Will never get off the ground, At least 13 clubs would vote against it (not sure how Everton would vote), and everyone can see the Big 6 for what they are.

I mean, it’s not broken for the clubs at the top of the premier league, but the further down you go the more cracks start appearing. There are far too many unsustainable professional clubs imo. It’s the EFL that really need to get their house in order. We have clubs going bust or nearly going bust every year now, so somethings got to give.

It’s the reason Parry backs this, because the efl will get a bigger slice of the pie, but imo they’ll just up their budgets and be in the same position within a few years.

I’m not convinced that giving so much voting power to a minority of the clubs in the league, whoever they are/ however long they’ve been in the league, wouldn’t constitute anti competitive behaviour In EU law, which depending who you believe we may well be subject to in the UK even after the end of the withdrawal process. Is there precedent for this type of arrangement in any other EU based league?

That's an interesting point. It could make up the basis for a legal challenge if any of the "unanointed" PL clubs (fuck me, I hate John Henry more with each passing second!) chose to fight it (assuming it doesn't get drowned in a bathtub now, as it should be).

Parry on 5Live this morning was talking like this was already a done deal. His attitude was that no one will be able to stop it happening.

nothing sinister at all about American investment companies swooping in offering what amounts to a quick bribe in exchange for greater voting weight in the future of English football

The only reason you buy votes is if youve got something on the horizon you want to push through that is going to be divisive.

Although as a club we may benefit from the proposals. Being involved doesn't sit well with me.

We might benefit in the short term but then utd and liverpool being the best supported clubs will want a bigger slice of the pie. A less competitive league will mean a loss of interest from supporters. Smaller clubs with little chance of winning games let alone trophies will see them lose generations of supporters. The premier league would slowly start dying. Then like real, barca and juve with no competition and little room for growth man utd and liverpool will want to break away and join a european super league.

What's not mentioned in article is Stephen Ross (Miami Dolphins Owner) plan to extend International Champions Cup into a competition where teams have to play starting XI & would be a recognised international championship.

Liverpool, Utd, City & Arsenal have attended meetings with Ross & some other European clubs about plan, Tottenham & Chelsea along with both Milan clubs, Real Madrid & others refused invitation. Liverpool are fully behind this because it would see them hosting tournament every year.

If this lot are let get control of EPL decision making it's only a matter of time until they cut out broadcasters & clubs run their own streaming service.. It will kill the English game.

There's quite an informed article by Gregor Robertson in the Times (behind their paywall, sadly) in which he seems very confident that this proposal will not see the light of day. "Project Big Picture, a proposal devised by Manchester United and Liverpool in cahoots with Rick Parry, the EFL chairman, to hand control of English football to a narrow elite in exchange for some desperately needed money to a growing poor, is almost certainly destined for the bin. But battle lines have been drawn: they are not the first and will not be the last."

Surely this is just a bribe so the clubs like spurs say yes to the proposal . This American guy at Liverpool wants to change our football set up so that it mirrors USA models and you would then have franchises with impossible as it seems clubs moving from one city to another city that will prove more profitable . The clubs must fight tooth and nail to stop this proposal . Then tell Liverpool and Man Unt to clear off from our set up and form their own champions league but if you leave you are not coming back .
I just pray our club gives this the elbow and say very loudly that this is just elitist with the aim to make the rich richer I can't put into words how much I dislike this American bloke trying to change the face of our game .
