There are many people who've contributed more to our country who got a lot less back for their contribution. The only difference was that she was born into a certain family.

Why does that mean we have to disrupt the travel plans of hundreds of thousands of fans around the country?

Also the comment about it not being like some old woman around the corner is actually the most disrespectful comment here. Unless we don't value the lives of everyone equally?
Just name one!
She was probably the most respected, and liked person in the world.

Can't help but think everyone is getting a bit worked up about this cancellation tbh. Its not in our control (unlike the goons and the covid delay) and doesn't do us a disservice really - we won't have less time to recover for the rescheduled match (hopefully more time) and some extra rest and time on the training field is probably needed with the recent displays.

In relation to the wider point on whether sporting events should be cancelled, there is mix of views and no one can claim most football fans agree with the postponement or absolutely disagree with it. This type of talk has crept into all our discussions (wider the SC) too much recently. No one represents my view so I find it frustrating that people speak on behalf of a group I am in.

With other sports going ahead, it's obvious that football is a considerably greater drain of police resources, than say rugby or cycling etc.
I imagine many police forces will be making their way towards London to start rehearsals and preparations for the huge week ahead.
That many world leaders all in one place is a mammoth security operation...and quite a headache in operations.

Yes, it would have been nice to pay tribute in the stadiums this weekend...but this is such a one-off situation, that although I can see value in both sides of the argument, I'm absolutely fine with the current outcome.

I'm sorry, how some of you find this "bizarre" is beyond me.

Irrespective of your views on the Monarchy, of which this is absolutely NOT the place to air them, the Head of State has died after a 70 year reign. That is a HUGE historical deal.

I actually think other events not being cancelled this weekend is slightly disrespectful.

In the grand scheme of life, your train ticket doesn't really matter and this has been the plan since the 1960's, whenever this were to happen. The fact her Grandson is the President of the Football Association aswell means I do not think they had much choice.

I'm disappointed its cancelled, but if you can't respect WHY it's been cancelled then you need to take a little look at yourself. If you are not even from this country and are moaning about it being cancelled, go and support Bayern Munich

To expand, everything has to be so dramatic these days. You can't show respect peacefully it has to be a big show and you get the most ridiculous inauthentic displays of 'respect' that are nothing of the kind. Rather, they are, self interested attempts to show the world look how much I respect the queen/support Ukraine/whatever the topical issue is of the day.

I mean it's comparable to when the war started with Ukraine with the removing of Russian literature from libraries and bookshops, or pouring vodka down the drain. It helps nobody, actually provides limits to people's enjoyment and is just some performative form of respect that tbh I find to be super disrespectful.

Now maybe this is not the place for it. But most sporting events are going ahead as normal, the official guidance from the palace is that there is no reason for sporting events to be postponed, and there is no precedent for sporting events to be cancelled outside days of the funeral for these kinds of events.

Now, personally, I don't think cancelling football is disrespectful, I do think it as unnecessary but so be it. But, seeing it as purely a case of social phenomena it really fits in with our time. It's not 'keep calm and carry on' in modern days everything needs to be amplified to count, and people get offended at the most mundane of things.

Isn't it more to do with the level of policing required and not adding any extra burden for stuff like football.

I myself am choosing to not talk much about the monarchy on this forum but this is ridiculous. So it's fine for you to air your views and your opinion and for others to air theirs so long as it's in line with yours but not if people disagree with you. That's total bullshit mate, I know free speech is a complete illusion mostly because those who champion it tend to draw the line at when something is said which opposes their views but that is dictatorial nonsense. If somebody airs an opinion different from yours, fill your boots and explain to them why you don't agree or find it disrespectful but don't tell people what they can and can't say.

Absolutely shocking attitude to take
Not at all, its a realistic attitude to take

Not overly different to when I got pissed off I bought a shirt with Romero 4 on the back then he changed numbers. Realistically, it's not that big a deal for anyone but me.

I know people have a bit more money at stake than that, but i guarantee when the initial anger passes you will probably come round to agree. Although I totally get why you would be really pissed off, if you are reasonable about it in the grand scheme of things its absolutely the right thing to do out of respect.

I didn't think I was particularly going into any views on my feelings towards the Monarchy. I'm a bit meh to it, I was referring to people that seem to have a strange disdain for them and are letting it could their judgement when talking about a football match being called off. I obviously badly worded it and maybe got a bit carried away, so apologies if it came across like that.

I was trying to come away from any conversation on political views, not views on the postponement of the game.

But get what you are saying, if thats how it came across then I take that back.
