Agreed, and I don’t think jt was a terrible time to play them with Walker and Laporte out. We haven’t massively missed out on an opportunity though imo. If you were a Villa fan you’d be annoyed as you’ve likely missed out on playing Leicester before Rodgers is sacked.

Let’s hope next week goes ahead then ?

Something of this magnitude does not happen ‘all the time’
You obviously don’t or don’t want to get it.
I mean it's unprecedented tbf. The previous two occasions that the king/queen died football went on as normal, except obviously rescheduled on the day of the funeral. I get that there is a policing issue as well, but this is a new way of dealing with such issues.

Great North Run goes ahead as planned on Sunday. I'm sure it will be a special and respectful event.

Imo if the games weren't called off we would have had a weekend of tributes that would have lasted long in the memory.

?, instead we’re likely to go the next 3 weeks without PL ⚽️

To expand, everything has to be so dramatic these days. You can't show respect peacefully it has to be a big show and you get the most ridiculous inauthentic displays of 'respect' that are nothing of the kind. Rather, they are, self interested attempts to show the world look how much I respect the queen/support Ukraine/whatever the topical issue is of the day.

I mean it's comparable to when the war started with Ukraine with the removing of Russian literature from libraries and bookshops, or pouring vodka down the drain. It helps nobody, actually provides limits to people's enjoyment and is just some performative form of respect that tbh I find to be super disrespectful.

Now maybe this is not the place for it. But most sporting events are going ahead as normal, the official guidance from the palace is that there is no reason for sporting events to be postponed, and there is no precedent for sporting events to be cancelled outside days of the funeral for these kinds of events.

Now, personally, I don't think cancelling football is disrespectful, I do think it as unnecessary but so be it. But, seeing it as purely a case of social phenomena it really fits in with our time. It's not 'keep calm and carry on' in modern days everything needs to be amplified to count, and people get offended at the most mundane of things.

One for the numbers people, but I wonder whether the FA could do something with the FA Cup third round, ie have more non-league and League 1/2 teams go through and the Prem teams come in at round 4, freeing up a weekend? Don't know if that's even feasible.
no why would you one of the great weekends of the season - and no its not feasible either

I'm torn on it. The chance to have stadiums across the nation have the minute of silence and then belt out the national anthem also would have been a great way to show respect.

Chances are that if Mase is saying this then Conte likely shares the same opinion. In which case, I’m fine with the City game getting postponed, they had more rest than us. Hope the Leicester game goes ahead next weekend though.

Oh definitely and I would think that Conte will want the game in Lisbon to go ahead. This week could go from three games in six days to potentially one/two games - much more manageable - from a sporting view point.

Yeah the day of the funeral as mentioned in my comment. I think that is logical and seems to be suggested in the official guidance. Cancelling sporting events the weekend after her death is an entirely different thing. Which is why the vast majority of sports are continuing as planned. I suspect the real reason for the PLs cancellation is a logistical thing. But obviously the PL would never admit to that as it would be deemed disrespectful.

Some peoples disrespect is appalling.
The Queen has been on the throne longer than the majority of us have been alive.
It is a monumental aspect of all our lives in the UK, so very sad for many, let them grieve in their own way.
A passing of a Monarch that will never be surpassed.
A few games get cancelled, not a big deal. (Do feel for those that have paid out large sums to see the match tho)
No doubt I will get many RED X''s.
I am not a royalist but she was special.
Take care one and all.
There are many people who've contributed more to our country who got a lot less back for their contribution. The only difference was that she was born into a certain family.

Why does that mean we have to disrupt the travel plans of hundreds of thousands of fans around the country?

Also the comment about it not being like some old woman around the corner is actually the most disrespectful comment here. Unless we don't value the lives of everyone equally?

Here is how I see it - there is no "right" answer here. There is no single course of action the PL could take that would make everyone happy.

They have taken a decision, and now we move on. It simply is what it is - neither good, nor bad.

All deaths are untimely - but, in this case, the Queen's death so close to the weekend, probably tipped the balance in favor of not playing so soon. Had she passed on Monday or Tuesday, perhaps he league might have felt sufficient time had passed.

But, a choice has been made. We simply live with it.

Until he realises that we have to play the rescheduled games in a similar congestion ?

Ryan Mason has backed the decision, and I suspect that Conte agrees.
As I said he complained bitterly about the schedule.
Those who wanted the game to go ahead, don't agree with them and find it difficult to understand why they wanted to inflict such a punishing schedule on us
I was wondering where Kane would get a rest, now he's got one, vital for us.
