Not quite like that. But I do compare it to JFK. Or, that is to say, the impact it had on a lot of people.
Another example is the day Lennon was killed. I still remember loads of people crying. I was young and didn’t understand why. I was born in NYC. So, was there the day it happened. And it was like someone had lost a loved one. That was the vibe.

So many similar examples. EG; Gandhi. Those that loved him, yet didn’t know him were distraught over his death. It felt personal.

All grieve in their own ways. In a case like this, perhaps this is grief about an era, and everything therein experienced by the one grieving.

I say, live and let live. Let people process emotion as is fit for them. judgement of that emotion (grief or joy) is slightly unfair, as you’ve never walked a mile in their shoes.

I am never shocked by the vitriol and sniping on SC. Sometimes it can go to far, but generally it is what it is. But the reaction on here towards those sharing their own feelings of sadness and grief is something i personally find odd and a little sad. Especially those who are being quite vicious. Seems misplaced.
You’re comparing a 96 year old woman who died peacefully to people who were murdered relatively young. People should be allowed to process however they want but it’s not comparable to JFK or Lennon.

you don't think the english are some of the biggest flag wavy patriots?!
Not really. For years, waving an England flag was associated with being a racist. Having an England flag outside your house, a comparatively rare thing here (unlike the USA), was a surefire sign the inhabitant was a racist. It's only in recent years that we've moved away from that and it's ok.

There's definitely a significant minority who are. But let's just say Jack grealish isn't the only one who doesn't know the national anthem and frankly the vast majority of people don't know much more than the first verse.

Thank you for making my point. As your response is entirely subjective. Not, in any way, shape or form, objective. Factual. Empirical. Just your point of view. Your feeling. And you feel is that a person grieving the loss of a head of state is not comparable to Gandhi, JKF, or Lennon. Therefore, should be discounted? That is a fine example of subjectivity.

Like me saying, anyone who thinks that grieving the assassination of a political figure is more worthy than grieving the loss of a musician who has taken their life, is just opinion. It's subjective. Whereas, I wouldn't say that. I may not feel how the other person does, or understand their perspective, but I respect it as their own. Therefore, it is objective. Their objective truth.

And furthermore, you contradict yourself by saying 'people should be allowed to process'... however...' but here comes the caveat, based on your terms.

Just leave it be, dude. Like I said... live and let live.

Agreed there's alot of snide remarks in here, I've aired my personal views earlier and can see both sides.

Not that it will happen but it would be interesting to know the ages of the posters and I really do think it would shed light on the post I made as I'd bet many of the snide remarks are from either my generation or younger.

It won't happen of course but would be interesting data. We could collect it and make some sort of xG out of it (expected games to happen?) Just to unite us all ?

Spent the day travelling abroad and only just realised games have been called off. Guess the police will be needed for events up and down the country and not least the funeral itself.
It’s no good looking at what was done in the past since these days we have real terrorist threats as well. I know the Notting Hill Carnival is usually the biggest event and takes some 30% of the Met to police so can see how the funeral will be a massive event.
On the other hand maybe people will just be glued to the coverage as they were 25yrs ago and the streets will be empty. Who knows

Posting one journalists opinion doesn't validate your pov. You could just as easily post one saying it was the correct decision. Ryan Masons tweet for instance.

Just accept it and move on, continually whining about it won't change anything.

Agree - it’s a policing issue imo.

There is a lot more to take into consideration than playing the games to honor the queen.

For a start you will have extra police around Buckingham just now for the extra people going there, extra police for this Accession Council that is goin on today. There will be a lot more to it than just this also

Until Wills turned up as a Villa supporter the Royal family have had not an iota of interest in football.
Rugby and horse racing definitely.
So football is wiped out and rugby and horse racing carry on.
Good time to be on holiday and out of the country.
You will have two weeks of mourning whether you like it or not.
We are now ruled by a man who used to have a servant put toothpaste on his toothbrush.
I use the word rule loosely. More an irrelevance really.

They will have cancelled rest days for the police as soon as this happened. Just scaremongering by the press.

Horse racing in The UK has also been cancelled today.

Don't agree with that at all.

Not one iota?

They've given a lot of their time to a huge amount of different sports and although they might not have been stood on the terraces signing the Posh Spice song or something, they've regularly attended cup finals, been patrons of one sort of another to the FA and the Queen even went to a game at the Maracana. So whilst not what you'd call 'fans', they've done their bit and certainly as much as for Rugby, if not more.

The new King is rumoured to be a Burnley fan and was gifted a VIP season ticket by them at one point. The (new) Prince of Wales, as you mentioned, is a Villa fan and the Queen was rumoured to be Her Majesty the Gooner. And Harry, when conducting charity work with local children at the New Zealand government house in Wellington a few years back he was heard saying "most of the royal family are Arsenal fans" plus at one time he was regularly seen at England games and cup finals. So whilst we cannot know for a certainty, the evidence suggests they do have some sort of interest.

Horse racing was the Queen's main sporting passion and that's fine, I guess some people look at that and assume she doesn't give a flying shit about football, I dunno, I would imagine a number of them have a few sporting interests outside of those favoured by the peasantry. But to suggest the Royal Family don't care about football at all is just plain wrong in my onion.

FA made a statement (that I posted 1 page back) saying the queen was their Parton and condolences to their President (Prince William)

They might no be seen going to game, but they have connections to the game.
