Man City Squad for Sale

Tycoon Thaksin Shinawatra has put Manchester City’s entire squad up for sale in the latest twist to his bizarre behaviour.

Thai billionaire Shinawatra, who is already set to sack manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, is apparently so disgusted with the team’s performances in the second half of the season that he wants a massive clear-out, including young stars such as Micah Richards, Michael Johnson and Joe Hart.

The news of the impending fire sale throws City even deeper into turmoil and will further antagonise fans, who staged a mass demonstration against Shinawatra last week.

They are threatening to withhold money for season tickets until it becomes clear who the manager will be next season and what players will be on the pitch. It also underlines the belief of many City insiders that Shinawatra does not understand football.

City’s owner, it is understood, has written a letter to each member of the team conveying his feelings.

He has put all contract talks on hold and wants to start next season from scratch with a new manager and new players. All this has prompted deputy chairman John Wardle, who is distraught at the crisis, to apologise to the players for selling the club to Shinawatra.
But the damage has been done and many players will be delighted to jump ship and relaunch their careers at a club with a less volatile owner.

Skipper Richard Dunne is expected to join Newcastle for £5million. The poor treatment of Eriksson was the final straw for Dunne, City’s Player of the Season. Richards is also unhappy.

He signed a new four-year contract in February because he was sure the club were going in the right direction. But Manchester United and Chelsea have now been alerted.

Johnson is a target for Liverpool, and goalkeeper Hart is being pursued by Tottenham, who also covet Martin Petrov, City’s Bulgarian winger.

Sunderland have been eyeing Stephen Ireland and there would be no shortage of bids for Elano.

Morale was so low that City lost Sunday’s final league game 8-1 against Middlesbrough.

This is so insane I can actually believe it.

If true we should make a bid for Sturridge, Hart and maybe even try for Petrov again, also I cannot see Elano hanging round there much longer.

I'd certainly take Hart, Richards, Dunne, Johnson and Sturridge for the right money, and if we cannot get first choice targets this summer, we could do worse than Petrov or Elano on the cheap.

After one season he wants to sell the whole squad and replace them with better players. Who could possibly want to go to a place like that?

Seriously, this guy hasn't a clue about football.

Last season they toyed with relegation, this season they had a rather successful one, and certainly a team to build on.

They finished in the top half, had decent runs in cup and done the double over Man Utd. Sven got them playing decent football at times and got in a few people into the team to improve.

With the money given to him, Sven's pulling power, they really could have been a force to contend either a long shot at fourth place, but certainly one fo the favourites for 5th (challening us and Everton).

It's actually quite idiotic behaviour from the owner, seriously baffling, as they were really making way to becoming a very good team and club altogether.

Feel sorry for the fans.

Wow - the washing machine is working on maximum speed. All those dirty clothes will soon be luverly, clean and laundered, and smelling of roses...

Apart from the likes of Richards, Johnson and Hart, I'd also be interested in Elano - if Ramos & Poyet could get him properly motivated.

I actually don't feel sorry for the City fans who were saying, 'So what if he's a crook who's sanctioned mass murder? He's got lots of dosh.'

Fit and proper person to run an English football club indeed…

Yes, indeed.

Unfortunately, the overpaid numpties who run our game are far more concerned about squeezing ever more profit from paying fans through destructive ideas like the "39th game" than actually policing and regulating ownership of clubs.

at least all this talk keeps the papers from printing crap about! and if true Man City might be undoing all the good work that was being layed down thsi year... thsi is why you need someone who knows about football (at least abit) in charge of clubs, and not just someone with lots of cash

Wouldnt mind a few bids to be put in for some of there players

I'd love to see a copy of the letter he sent to all the players and staff, that must be a framer

As said before - few i'd like to grab on the cheap if the opportunity arose and i'm with LongS - I rate Benjani too and i think given the right players alongside him he could be a real threat.

I'm a bit bitter about Petrov - i know he'd be a real asset, but he'd have been an even bigger asset this term and chose to turn us down in favor of the skyblues - money? Having to weigh up talent against passionless cash-chasing... toughy.

Elano i expect will end up back in Spain or Italy

Sounds like he's making room for Ronaldinho. Maybe a bit too much room.

Hopefully this will make the authorities look long and hard at some of the renegades that are trying to buy into the premiership.

 So is this just a rumour, journo bull or actually true? If it is we should most certainly put in a couple of cheap bids...

Hart, Richards, Dunne, Johnson, Sturridge, especially.. maybe Corluka, Elano too..

Is that a euphemism for clean sheets for us next season?

As a Spurs fan I can't help feeling a great affinity with Man City fans. This is so rediculous yet you can imaginine it happening at Tottenham.

Or at very least a chairman who accepts that he knows little about football & hires other people to run that side (Levy/Comolli)
