Harry Redknapp has revealed that Tottenham paid an inflated fee for Scott Parker in order to keep Jake Livermore at White Hart Lane.
Spurs snapped up England international Parker over the summer following a protracted chase.
It was expected that Livermore would head in the opposite direction, with the Hammers keen to cover the loss of an influential midfielder.
Redknapp was reluctant to part with the 21-year-old though, even on loan, and admits Tottenham upped their offer for Parker in order to push a deal through.
"I like Jake. He's a fantastic boy and he's an established player now," Redknapp told London 24 of a player who has already made 12 appearances this season.
"West Ham wanted to take him and, in the end, he didn't want to go anyway. It didn't happen and I'm pleased to have him here because he's important for us.
Future

"He'll play in midfield and do a job anywhere for you. I think he has a good future.
"We paid more money for Scott in the end rather than throw Jake in as part of the deal."
Livermore is expected to line up for Spurs in Thursday's Europa League clash with Rubin Kazan with Redknapp - who will be absent from the game after undergoing a minor heart operation - confirming that a number of youngsters will be given another opportunity to impress.
"We've played some of the younger kids in Europe and they've come in and done well - people like young Tom Carroll, Andros Townsend, Jake Livermore and Harry Kane," he said.
"They've all had a go at it and they've all acquitted themselves well.
"We'll keep doing the same thing. I'll play those lads and one or two who are coming back to fitness, so they'll come out and play for us in Russia on Thursday."

Been quite impressed with Livermore this season and having someone like Parker in the team can only help in Livermores development

We still only paid 5 million for Parker (bargain) and Jake's an essential member of the squad.

I hope Parker can stay the pace, because we was like this when Palacios first came

i don't rate Livermore.
I agree with you ever though he has done well I am not a fan.He is very clumsy and is constantly giving away free kicks, not the best on the ball and is very slow on the turn just like our Hud, but unlike Big Tom he does not have the ability on the ball.

Simple question:
Did retaining him hinder, piss-orf, or inconvenience the Spammers in any way, shape or form?
If the answer is YES then the cost of retaining him was well worth it :hump:

i don't rate Livermore.

But surely you have to rate him relative to his role?

As a young, 5th choice, cheap wage, not taking up a squad place, happy to sit on the bench and play cup games player, I rate him very highly.

But as a like for like replacement for Modric, Parker, or Sandro he's not even close.
He's appeared for us 12 times and we're 5th in the league and top of our Europa League group so as Harry says 'He's done a job'.

What's better - Livermore who we can see improve or JJ or gets slated for anything?

Interestingly enough I saw an Asian lookalike of JJ this morning.

He had a bentley, before he even made his debut:eek:mg:

I mean we could probably do better if we wanted ANOTHER young DM, but he's an Enfield boy, loves the club, is happy to play in cups and the occasional league game, and seems a good kid.

I don't think he'll ever be at the CL/title contender level but as a squad player he's great.

Plus he said this after scoring against Barcelona and was asked how it felt:

Score against the best team in the world? I play for them.

I rest my case.
