"Little or no January transfer activity" quote unquote Daniel Levy at the end of December 2007, well, if spending 2 million on Gunter, 7 million on Woodgate, 9 million on Hutton, plus the probable signing of Gilberto at 2.1 million, taking the January spending spree to 20 million, I say bring on the summer when we really start spending !!!!!

One sad note, I am a great Chimbonda admirer, a class act, we always miss him when he doesn't play, and I feel that the writing is on the wall for him to be moving on now we have spent 9 million on Hutton, a real shame if my insticts are true.

The motto should be:

In Levy I Do Not Trust

Certainly not anything he loudly proclaims about lack of forthcoming transfer activity on the club website.

That said, it was obviously a bluff, and since many of us read it that way, I'm not sure why he bothered. It was about as plausible as Hoddle's statement that we had no interest in Robbie Keane shortly before we signed him...

Look on the bright side, we are competing for the best footballers in the world, that's what I was brought up on in the 70's.... I much rather he says we will buy no one, and end up with the result of this transfer window buying 3 class players, than promise us the earth and sign no one... I am very happy with the board, chairman, director of football, manager and my beautiful team.... the future is looking bright, the future's looking lilly white :)

Lowering expectations when he knows full well there will be activity is actually very shrewd.

I think I've gone off my Levy's a **** rant. In fact I never really had it in for him to start with. It's more that cheese-eating-surrender-monkey of a spectacled DoF.

I'm joking ... lousy cheese-eating-surrender-monkey ...

I'm sure that was Levy's intention, but did you believe him? Did you really think that Ramos would be 100% happy with the squad he'd inherited and not want any January transfer additions?

Stoof, great to see you. Flew back for the Sunderland and Arsenal games, still hoarse :) Watching the Everton game live tonight on showtime system, I love modern technology. Got my tickets for the final. I have a funny feeling the back 4 against Chelscum will be Hutton-king-Woodgate-Gilberto (Chimbonda would be fine too)... I think Mr Ramos has immediately identified our weaknesses, expect a world class keeper in the summer. Pleased we are reading off the same page these days, you're welcome to watch the Spurs here if you are ever passing through Alicante.

All we should remember is when we needed a striker and signed Andy Booth on loan!

Nuff said.

I think we have improved the squad and that should be the aim of all transfer windows.

Chimbo is a good player but not what we really need. We have only missed him because he is better than any of the players we had to replace him. from what i have seen Hutton offers alot more than Chimbo and he will fit into our style of play. Chimbo's habit of holding onto the balll really affects our ability as a team to break forward or withstand pressure because he takes the momentum out of our moves.

I think the question is answered by the amount of man hours that I (and loads of others) have put into the Transfer Rumours forum, yanno.

I always think there's a possibility of us signing someone incredible. Someone has to lead the doubters!

Honestly and seriously though, I thought we'd strengthen at the back. Gus was far too transparent with his "there'll be changes" - knowing full well that 3 of the back 4 needed to be renewed. I was hopeful of a centre-back with Premiership experience (preferably an International) coming in; and I think we've got that and how with Woodgate. I didn't think we'd replace Lee or Chimbonda although both have differing levels of faults but have been solid enough players in the past.

I expected some Comolli kids. And dreamt of a Poulsen type - not expectant of one. I don't think those sorts of midfield bosses move in the middle of seasons, clubs don't let them unless for astronomic fees and even then they'll want a guaranteed replacement as who wants their footballing spine ripped out?

It's tricky - but providing Gilly signs on the dotted line and everything's OK there, then this window has been an ultimate success.

Indeed. And thanks to you and the SC team for your tireless work and patience.

I think it's been a very good window so far - in terms of deals concluded - and let's hope Woody stays away from the bright lights, enjoys the Alvarez baby food diet, and has had enough of being a sicknote. Now bring on that deadline day Argie to put the icing on the cake!

PS I'm still really not sure who Levy thought he was fooling with his original statement...

No, we make profit. Like a business.

Ridsdale ran Leeds like Jerome Kerviel would run SocGen.

Don't you mean deadline day 'Brasilian'. Checked today on the Hertha Berlin website, they recently played a friendly as their winter break is coming to an end, and Gilberto did not play in a squad of 22, and Berlin have signed 4 new players, could be, who knows.

Gilberto's a given according to all the ITKs - just waiting for the Work Permit. Check out the Transfer Rumours section for the latest on our deadline day Argie...

Levy, you BASTARD! We needed a new defence and you bought one.

Commoli, you BASTARD! Your new coach told you he wanted new defenders and you found him some.

Ramos, you BASTARD! We wanted to thump Arsenal and you made our team do it.

WTF can I moan and be fickle about for the rest of the season? Some of you just STOP FUCKING MOANING!!!!
