There's a decent crowd at the London Olympic Stadium for today's final pre-season friendly. At a very rough guess, there's probably around 35,000 there today.

They must have made nearly 100k on tickets alone at those prices. At least the owners got petrol money for the day.

Penalty Shoot-out in their friendly today and they put the bubble machine on each time a West Ham player scores one of the penalties....Jesus wept.

There have now been five iterations of the Betway Cup, a pre-season 'tournament' comprising of one game.

Obviously, West Ham have been involved all five times. In addition, Werder Bremen have played twice, Juventus, Athletic Bilbao and Mainz once.

The honours board looks like this:

Winners

Werder Bremen (twice)
Juventus (once)
Athletic Bilbao (once)
West Ham (once)

I know West Ham fans have been keen to see how their new £45m striker settles in and so they will have been pleased to hear that he scored in the first minute of his home debut today with a shot that gave the keeper no chance.

They'll be even more pleased when he learns to put it in the right net...

Blast from the past when I saw they’ve sold Reece Oxford to some German club for £3m. Another player massively over-hyped just because he’s young

Yeah, Having Ozil in your pocket for a game isn't really something to aspire to nowadays.

Good player - they stifled his development by not playing him due to fear of losing him, imo, which has had an ironic ending

I'm pretty sure their PR plan is loosely based on Trump at this point. Nothing is too embarrassing, as long as it gets a reaction on social media.

They've annoyingly made some good signings this summer.

West Ham United must be challenging for European football this coming season, according to midfielder Declan Rice.

Wonder if he'll be offski when Haller scores 5 league goals, Wilshere plays 26 minutes all season and they finish 12th?

Must be challenging for Europe. West Ham deserve to be a big club. Declan Rice is a starter for England.

Right...

They’ve qualified for Europe about 4/5 times in their history haven’t they? They should be challenging given how much they spend perhaps?
Nobody deserves to be a big club. Probably are around 11th/12th biggest in England given Leeds, Forest and the like are going through a prolonged tough spell. Is that pretty big?
He starts in experimental games against crap teams. If England had a World Cup semi final tomorrow, he wouldn’t get in the starting XI.

He had a great season but I don’t see it with him. He’s not mobile enough to become a top class holidng midfielder imo. I remember Dier having a very similar season not so long ago. Rice is still growing too, could end up a right old unit.

I can't see that at all. He only scored 18 in his best season with us. He was on loan at Palace for six months in 2015/16 and managed 1 goal. If any other club was linked to him I'd assume it was BS, but you never know with West Ham.

18 goals I'm 37 appearances. 18 x 2 = 36 which is almost 50% goals to appearances which is what I said.

The anticipation I feel when I read the opening line of one of your posts in the West Ham thread.

That seems to be based on the assumption that he's as good now as he was when he played for us and that West Ham could create as many chances for him as we did.

Has any 35 year old ever scored 15+ goals in the Premier League?

Think Sheringham did it in 2015 for Utd. Probably others too but not may I suspect.
