The achievement bit is where you realise the budget and net spend figures Benitez had to work with. He did a really good job with what he had.
Also consider the language barrier.

Exactly. When they get relegated this season people will understand how well Benitez was doing. The achievement bit is where you realise the budget and net spend figures Benitez had to work with. He did a really good job with what he had.

That's why he was really loved. Benitez did the same on Merseyside, he tries to 'get' the club and its community. With Bruce being a local, he should have some good will on that front at least (despite being a Man Utd legend...)From what I heard Benitez was active and supported the community, which is partly why he was popular. So they must understand each other a little bit a least.
Bruce seems to have treated Sheffield Wednesday pretty poorly here as well. They appointed him in January, but let him have time off before joining the club at the start of February. He's now walked out of them on Monday, and has already signed on with Newcastle days later. I know he's going to want to join a Premier League team, especially one his family support, but it sounds like he's stitched Wednesday up here.
He left for the cash, not because he couldn't take Newcastle any further imo. And I think Benitez constantly used his god like status with the fans there, against the club.
Agree. No class whatsoever. Also surely there has to be some sort of thing preventing you from just resigning in order to sign for another club immediately? If you're allowed to just do this then why do clubs ever bother paying compensation etc. when they can just get the manager to resign and join them for nothing? There has to be something stopping this?
Sheffied Wednesday aren't happy about it: https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...le-appoint-steve-bruce-manager-rafael-benitez
"A statement from Sheffield Wednesday said: “The club is disappointed to learn via public statement issued by Newcastle United that it has appointed former Sheffield Wednesday staff Steve Bruce, Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence. Regardless of the fact that the staff resigned from their positions, there remains outstanding legal issues to be resolved between the club and the staff and Newcastle United. The club is currently considering its position and taking the appropriate legal advice.”
I'll be stunned if he's not sacked by Christmas
Nah. Ashley loves to make the Geordies squirm. This is the man who gave Pardew an 8 year contract.Imagine thinking Steve Bruce is a great football manager destined to take Newcastle to unparalleled heights and win tons of trophies, rather than a massively overrated, spud-faced chancer who's guaranteed to get them relegated.

AhahahaNot all bad, currently beating a top 6 cert in the Asia trophy 3Rd place play off.

I agree with this , but if they are bottom and adrift from the others, then changes will comeAbsolutely not being sacked. There's a reason he's there. He's cheap and he most likely won't complain about signings.
