He left for the cash, not because he couldn't take Newcastle any further imo. And I think Benitez constantly used his god like status with the fans there, against the club.

He left because Newcastle wouldn't provide significant investment for the team, if it was for money he would have left them ages ago.

Disagree. He obviously went to China (as opposed to elsewhere) for the cash, there's not denying that, but he didn't leave Newcastle specifically because he wanted to go to China. He left because it was obvious that Ashley wasn't prepared to invest so he knew there was nothing he could do to progress the team any more so it was just a waste of time. He didn't leave because he had his head turned by China, that's nonsense. If Ashley had been prepared to buy into his project or the new owners had come in and done the same, then he wouldn't have left.

Ashley took the piss and didn't back him. They will get most likely get relegated with out him.

Here is a list of the Newcastle United Managers who have managed 200 or more Premier League matches in their career, for NUFC and other clubs.

The table shows total number of Premier League games managed, average points per PL game, then the average goals for and against in the Premier League:

Like I said "a bit" :cautious:;)

Yeah, but Rafa managed teams with significantly better resources than Bruce, so that's a bit of a misleading table.
240+ of the games shown up there were in charge of Chelsea & Liverpool.
Bruce - his PL record is with Birmingham, Wigan & Sunderland.

Benitez took the newcastle job because he believed in their potential. He could have taken any number of other more high profile ones. Criticising him is just crazy. Good on him, go and get a pay day and put your feet up rafa.

Benitez was apparently shocked when the club announced he was leaving. I think he was expecting them to come back with another late offer. I do believe he would have preferred to stay at Newcastle, but asked for the sort of backing, he was never gonna get imo.
You're probably right, he didn't have his head turned by China. But I think, it may have looked better, had he gone to another top European side.

But why go to China? Surely he's still good enough, for a top European job?

You're confusing two different things.

Going to China for the money is not the same thing as leaving Newcastle for the money.

He left Newcastle for one reason (lack of investment/prospects under Ashley), and joined a club in China as opposed to Europe for a different reason (money). You're trying to make out like he was all fine at Newcastle until he got an offer from China that turned his head, but that's clearly not what happened.

He'll still get them relegated, no matter what spin is put on it.

Not easy to replace a manager like Rafa. Realistically who could they get knowing that the previous manager left because he was punching well above Newcastles weight on a ridiculously small budget and was not being backed to try and take them further.

They were always going to get a yes man in, fair play to Bruce for probably getting another big pay day himself. Not going to end well for anyone though and you have to feel for the fans the most. Looking at that squad and I'm not even sure it could challenge for the playoffs in the championship.

Been proper shite in this friendly against Wolves, defence has been all over the place.

Might stick some money on them getting relegated, they're gonna be lost without Benitez.

I can't understand how Stephen Clemence's playing and coaching career has been intertwined with Bruce
for so many years ?

Ok, I thought Rafa's 'achievements' at Newcastle had been blown out of proportion, but I do feel sorry for the Geordies going from a top level European coach, to Steve fucking Bruce.

The achievement bit is where you realise the budget and net spend figures Benitez had to work with. He did a really good job with what he had.
