Different test for him today. Ireland playing Shane Long up top so we’ll see him dealing with threat in behind. The Welsh midfield isn’t great either. We’re playing Joe Morrell who’s a steady football league player at best and Matt Smith who’s an academy player. Might see a bit more of Rodon carrying/playing the call through midfield himself or trying with a few more ranged passes to by-pass them. Be a better look at him rather than the man-marking job he did on Ings against England.

Matt Doherty now playing left centre-half for Ireland. Had no idea he could play there.

Leicester make me laugh, they could really do a Leeds, their wage bill is circa 70-75% of turnover. Rodon doesnt make sense, they have Soyenchu(sp) how will be a main CB, They just paid 40M for fofana which is a huge sum for a young chap, he is brought in to be the main pairing with Soyenchu(sp) longterm.. Evan is 32 an probably a yr left in him and Fofana will be main CB going forward and Morgan is 36 now so this will be his last year.

To be a back up at LCFC or Spurs you'd most likely choose Spurs right now mainly / especially if you get to work wit JM, personally i think agents/swansea might be playing a game here to maybe get us/levy to pay more cash or anything extra, however ITK have said money aint an issue with this one, else its probably media hearing LCFC have enquired which maybe true and the rest is poetic licence media love to add on , especially when it come to us
Billionaire owners unlikely to do a Leeds Utd

You've hit the nail on the head, we paid 42m pounds and 3 years later still isn't get good enough to get into any of the top 6 teams.
Have you seen the defences of the other top six teams?
I'd say that Sanchez would walk in and improve any of them.

What has put a spanner in the works somewhat is that Sanchez hasn't reached his full potential, we paid 42m for him to be Toby's/Jans long term replacement and to be that elite level centre back and unfortunately the plan hasn't worked.

Funny thing is you just got completely destroyed rating wise, as i have previously when ever suggesting Sanchez won't make it as a top tier CB.

Once again, people keep going on about what age was VDD, Toby or Jan when they came to the premier league etc. The difference between them and Sanchez, is that even before they moved here you could tell each of them had a brain and game intelligence. Sanchez doesn't or hasn't shown it at all. Even our manager targeted him at Ajax in the Europa league final.

Then the next argument, Sanchez has pace. Pace means nothing if you don't know how to use it. 9/10 Sanchez faces pace or power, the two things people make out are his strengths, he loses out. He doesn't read the game well and positional poor, so his pace isn't that great because majority of time he is 2 yards in the wrong position. Toby and Jan was a way better pairing, they both are average athletes, but miles ahead when reading / understanding the game. This can't be taught (well rarely), if it can, Sanchez isn't learning, in 3 years he has shown no progression in this area.

Finally what people say, every CB makes mistakes and then show that one mistake by VDD. Comparing Sanchez to VDD is like comparing Harry Winks to Luka Modric. Sanchez is way off VDD and do people on here really think he has the ability to get close to his level. I have very little confidence in that, until he can actually dominate a fast / powerful forward consistently i can't agree with this, as in most cases he loses out or looks wreck less.

Looking forward to the negs, again from the Sanchez fan club.

Getting back on track, this Rodon kid looks to have potential. But more importantly has two aspects to his games we are a little weak in, aerial dominance and pure strength. For the right price would be happy to see what he can do. Lots of Championship followers really rate him and that usually bodes well.

Nothing to do with a Sanchez fan club. People are just bored of you gammons’ off-topic rants about this month’s scapegoat.

You missed crucial part that Jose targeted him at Ajax in the Europa league final because he's ability of ball playing was worse than De Ligt's, not because lack of brain and game intelligence.
And yet, quick searching at twitter in that day shows that even when he was targeted by him everyone were very impressed by Davinson in that game.

Of course. Theres no denying he had a poor game though.......so many mistakes and poor pases. Different players and different positions but at least with somebody like jack clarke who we signed from leeds was visibly talented. This guy seems like he would be in and out our club within 2 seasons.

At 24 van dijk is fighting relegation with Southampton and goes on to join Liverpool at 27. At 24 alderweireld is a bit part player at atletico madrid making only 12 appearances in 2yrs, joins Southampton on loan at 25 before joining spurs in 2015 aged 26. At 24 Sanchez is now first choice RCB at spurs, a top 6 team pushing for champions league football. Let's compare like with like and not young CB's like sanchez at the beginning of their careers with experienced CB's like van dijk and alderweireld at the peak of their careers.

No one was looking at Liverpool signing VVD at that time as a master stroke ill be honest I thought he was a donkey, definitely could not see what ever Klopp saw. I can't really see it in Sanzhez either if he will be a top CB but on the flipside I don't think anyone who thinks he won't be a top CB can see it either.

Go back and read the TA thread when we were signing him.

I thought Jan would be out the year Poch came in he was terrible under AVB. By the end I thought he was better than TA

predicating how good players will be is pretty much 50/50 guess a flip of the coin

Sanchez recovered really well after giving away a poor early penalty, went on to have a really good game against United. Sign of good character.

With JM and Ledders around to continue his development the signs are good.

I have a story about a scout that is gospel truth - I can't tell you who it was but a manager of a league club wanted a report on the side they were playing the following week - the coach at the club said his dad was local to the oppostion and that he would do it for him for a few quid. The dad went to the game decided that both teams were rubbish and left early (probably went to the bar)- the original report was along the lines of they are rubbish but the big bloke up front can run a bit - no details of players corner routines or anything - the coach then wrote a completely contrived report that he handed to the manager giving completely made up details of routines and players - the side receiving the report won, the manager was delighted with the report - though he wondered why they did hardly any of the corner or free kicks that the dad had worked so hard to record.

This was a few years ago

Mike McGrath's transfer notebook: Tottenham to step up talks with Swansea over deal for Joe Rodon

Spurs opened negotiations on deadline day but the clubs remain apart on their valuation with five days remaining of the EFL window

Tottenham will step up talks over a deal for Swansea centre-back Joe Rodon but an agreement could go to the wire in the final week of the EFL domestic transfer window.

Spurs opened negotiations for the 22-year-old on deadline day for international transfers as there was a chance of registering him for the Europa League but the clubs remain apart on their valuation with five days remaining to strike an agreement.

Jose Mourinho added Gareth Bale, Carlos Vinicius and Sergio Reguilon to his squad during the summer window but wants a centre-back to complete his club’s business.

While the EFL extension has given them an extra 11 days to land Rodon, deals between Premier League with Championships clubs did not progress as players headed off on international duty, with chief executives working towards the Oct 16 deadline rather than moving swiftly.
