meh, would be fine as a HG squad option to come off the bench and start in cup games

He's right though.

That the mid/late 20s guy who posts on tiktok - fairly normal behaviour - who is also a footballer who plays at a very very high level, a job that requires extensive training, focus and concentration, "cares more" about these social media posts than actual football?

No, no he isn't. As wide of the mark as Souness was about Pogba.

I get being annoyed by Lingard. I find him annoying too. But there's a line between "I find his social media presence irritating and distasteful" and "he literally cares more about posting on social media than football". I think the latter is silly and OTT.

He aint coming to us to sit on the bench. He should try and get a move to somewhere like leicester or back to west ham. Either would be abetter move for I'm than us.

I feel at this point, looking at our business thus far, we shouldn’t be looking at rotation/squad filler options.

Yep, we haven’t actually spent much at all when you consider the likely sales, so a top CB and another top midfielder who will elevate the quality of the squad rather than just adding bodies should be what we want.

Just makes 0 sense to sign him over Eriksen
Well he's homegrown so there is that at least. It's ok to keep shouting out names of players that are better, but if they are all foreign at some point this HAS to be taken into account.

Not that I've heard we are in for him but it's certainly something that needs to be taken into consideration.

*My opinion is he's asking too much money anyway for a squad player, or at least he was last time I heard anything on him(which was months ago).

Just knew this was going to rear its head given that SSN did a little piece yesterday reminding all he was a free agent. :cautious:

Free transfer but bundles of signing on fee & chunky wages I’d imagine.

I’d be surprised, doesn’t seem to fit into the system either.

The interesting thing here is - we don't have room for an Association trained HG player - in terms of CL registration:

1. Doherty
2. Forster
3. Sessegnon
4. Spence - if we sign him

Adding Lingard, or any Association Trained HG player, would mean one of the above won't be registered for CL, or will be sold (or not bought in the case of Spence).

SUrely there's always room for an association trained HG? You're not limited to 4. The limit only impact the number of non-English FA trained players

For CL - its a 25 man roster max.

17 can be non-HG - we are very much up against that right now (We are over this limit until we start selling)
4 can be Association Trained - we have 4 right now - if we sign Spence.
4 can be Club Trained - Kane, Skipp, (Tanganga and Winks, but I think they will be moved on this window)

Yeah you are not limited to 8 HG players (4+4) BUT need a minimum, 4 have to come through your own youth system

surely we would use one of Whiteman or Austin for the 3rd GK spot

I am pretty familiar with them - what do you think I am missing here?

It does assume that we will have 17 non-HG players, but even if we end up with less, Lingard's status would then be irrelevant.
