I always remember the free kick he scored at OT to get us a point. Good footballer, he had all the tools. Just not consistent. At all. Which, for a CM, is a bit of a bugger really. FB and CM, no room for up and down games really.

Never understood why he drew the ire of so many though. Some real vitriol flew throughout all the Spurs forums over him at times.

Edit to add: Which at the time confused the shit out of me. Bear in mind I had been largely fed on a diet of complete shite with the likes of washed up Sherwood (vomit) and his usual average self Redknapp (gouges eyes out) being a midfield high point other than the first couple of years I followed us in the early 90's. So, Jenas was a mahoosive step up in that he wasn't basically an unlikable **** and had some footballing ability.

In hindsight though, and after watching a Modric operate then yeah, he wasn't one of the very best CMs in the world. I'll never hold that against him myself.
Agree, if he played to the best of his ability that's all you can ask of anybody.

Better suited to the flat but our team was more National hunt.
He was a fine player but not a player to stick it to team mates to raise their game, none of our top players were but he was expected to be by too many people.
Very good pundit though.

Had no problem with Jenas. He wasn't my favourite player, but he always seemed to give his all and scored a lot of important goals for us. Good servant of the club.

Always did have a soft spot for Jenas. Met him a couple of times very briefly when working up in Barnet and he was always a really nice lad. He's one of the better pundits around these days.

He is such a nice bloke shame his career ended the way it did, I hope he goes on to have a great career in TV.

When they threw him the shirt I kind of felt sorry for him, I thought how's he going to get out of this. Luckily he did something I never thought I would view as classy. Legend!!!!

Jenas lacked hunger unfortunately; physically he had it all to be a great player.

If only he had the hunger of Andy Reid to go with his physical attributes, personally I'm a big Jenas fan although I'll always remember that gaudy silver suit he wore to one of the Christmas parties.

He had the ability to absolutely run the game and be a 10 out of 10. Unfortunately they were very rare most of the time he was either 6 or 7 out of 10 which would be decent but not great. I don't remember him having any games that he was terrible in but I think the fact you knew he had the ability to be so good made the fact that most of his performances were just decent so frustrating and that's why he got the stick he got. Funny enough I think if he never had those amazing games he would have been seen as a decent dependable player.

An above average player at best, I really thought he'd take his game to another level with us but it never materialised. He was just so inconsistent at Spurs, sometimes he'd look the best player on the pitch and others it was as if he was a passenger for 4-5 games. It's another case of a player who understands the game perfectly but couldn't reflect that onto the pitch. One thing I did like though he did care when it came to the derbies, he was very focused and played some of his best stuff.

You could tell he'd end up a pundit, one of the only players I'd see in an interview who was very articulate and didn't use all the old cliches

Always liked him. Even when he didn't perform. He had all the right tools to be great, shame he couldn't do it

He was a decent all round midfielder but I can't think of one outstanding attribute he had to make him a 10/10 player.

Would you say the same of Alli? For me the big thing separating the two will prove to be drive and desire - otherwise they have all the same attributes to their game.

No, I would say that Alli's attributes are more like Steven Gerrard's than Jermain Jenas.

He was quality with Carrick. Game slowly fell apart playing with Zokora if memory serves.

He was vastly better and more consistent than dozens of modern era players that have received considerably more love than he has.

During his prime years we played better as a team when he was in it. As far as I'm concerned it's team game so if the team looks good and he doesn't only when he's in it something is working.

He also ran and ran and ran. He wasn't a hands on hips type watching a game pass him by and he won us a lot of points.
