He is a good player and I think he is a player most spurs fans would like but he isn't someone that would be a starter for us or any other top 7 team minus everton imo.

He isn't quiet good enough for CM spots and limited to be playing in the wide spot

However if you having a tough game he is someone good to have off the bench

I think he could provide an option in a reserved midfield position that would provide some fluidity from deep (more mobile No 6 per se) against the weaker sides, and isn't a bad option to field anywhere against the top sides given his experience. I think he could be a very useful addition.

Milner's best season for me remains his last at Villa when he played the full season centrally. Since then, he's gained a lot of experience winning trophies and playing for the international team.

I don't want to give up on Paulinho, BUT if we were to get Milner I think he would serve us well sitting alongside a defensive midfielder or as the balancing act between DM and AM in a 4-3-3.

Admittedly, it isn't as sexy as Paulinho or the potential that Paulinho could realise, but it would give is a hell of a lot in terms of drive, determination and stamina. Milner to me is a bullish player with great desire and attitude, something we could do with more of. Centrally I've seem him have great games as a kind of box to box type who can chip in with defending and positional responsibility whilst having the lungs to tear forward all day.

Sometimes the less fancy things work very well. Eg Parker in next to Modric.

I also think that Milner might be the type of guy who would relish taking on more responsibility in a team and being one of the more senior players.

End of the day, there's always other options but I'd certainly not be unhappy if we snapped him up.

Ideally if we do sell one of Paulinho or Dembele this summer, I'd like to see us fill that spot with a DLP type player and finally replace Modric with some creativity and transition from deep, but I certainly wouldn't mind the variety there Milner would provide. Also like using him as a the CDM in cups/against weaker sides if we want to get a bit more aggressive and controlling with quick possession and movement. The man just provides plenty of options, and his experience with a winner's mentality certainly would be useful as well.

It's not like City are kicking him out. He is actively choosing to go himself it would seem. The guy still had 12 starts in the league and 3 in the CL along with a high number of sub appearances.

He could potentially be happy with reasonable rotation at our club say around 25-30 starts all comps and would add the attitude things already discussed.

If he's good enough for City to see as a very useful utility man then there's every chance he could be good enough for us and/or a bit of a mini revelation going somewhere where he can be involved more.

Still don't see us going for him, I'd imagine he may be dying ember from when Sherwood was talking about having his own targets

Agreed with your rotational points.

Also agree that we most likely won't go for him, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see any of the managers we're considering go after him to adds some experience and leadership primarily. Any fool can see we're massively lacking it at the moment, and I expect the new manager to quickly assess and address it.

Once before he went to Newcastle and then again just before he went to Villa.

Yeah well we were pretty shit back then, and as his profile has increased so has ours. No chance he'd turn us down now, as no higher profile team will be pursuing him these days. Don't think he'd even start most league games for us were he to come.

I'd cry if we signed him. He's absolutely one of the least intelligent, production line coached, average players i've ever seen in the England squad. Very mechanical, he just does what he's been taught, go here, play that there, make this run, don't go here etc etc, there's absolutely no wit, skill or invention about him.

But there he is. Stealing a living at Man City and playing for England. Is that becuase he's that good or because managers want and like a safe option? What do I know. Fuck all probably. Onions.

After seeing all the Agrees & lIkes for pro-Milnar posts I thought I was going to be the lone gunman. I think he's average, so average that he looks good because he so consistently average. I would be underwhelmed

He runs about a bit, has a reasonable pass and his shot isnt so bad..........................sounds a bit like Teemu Tainio. It's a no for me as i see it preventing possible development of youngsters such as Bentaleb or Carroll

Think it was when we signed Robbo from Leeds, Milner said something along the lines of he'd never want to play for Spurs then signed for Villa or someone. He's a twat.
And he'd have been what? 17-18 years old? While he's been a twat when he was young, I'm pretty sure he isn't the only one.

I'll probably get the biggest shitstorm for this but I'd replace Dembele and maybe even Paulinho for Milner, without a second thought. Dembele is incredibly ineffective in our midfield and doesn't have the heart like Milner does. He's also very injury prone. Paulinho is Paulinho and while I hope and think he'll be good in the 14/15 season he's a replaceable type of player. There's a clear abundance of box-to-box players nowadays.

Milner has a decent shot, is an incredibly hard worker, a leader on the pitch and a decent passer. He's a waterbearer and the type of player any successful side needs at least one of.

Nope, I agree with you. I like Dembele, but I have my concerns with his hip problems that he doesn't have a forseeable chance to address as well as his inability to take on the back line. Paulinho is a decent player, but given our needs elsewhere I'd sell him for even what we bought him for to bring in what I believe are plenty of better options with money left over for other areas. In reality, Paulinho will likely have a good Cup so we could generate quite a bit of funds from his sale, and could probably buy Milner, Clasie, and still have money left over for elsewhere.

Thats how I remember it was reported, I would think we could do better than him really.

Would be a slightly underwhelming signing, but would bring bags of Premier League experience, winning mentality, leadership etc etc which is something we don't have in abundance at the moment.

My biggest concern would be where he fits in the team/formation we intend to play...but then I think that about a bunch of our players at the moment.
