A few stories this morning about Milner asking to leave City. Spurs, Everton and (in a separate article) Arsenal mentioned as interested. No official quotes etc but thought to be around £10m for the 28 year old. Now personally I'm not a huge fan when I see him turn out for England but I think his work ethic could add something to our team. Skill is great but effort is also needed but could he fit into our midfield? Talk also of Barry to Spurs in the papers but would Milner be a better option given age etc?

edit: Not sure why nferno and wellspurs disagree as i was just posting an article and asking some questions.........Thought you had to make a statement for someone to disagree with it!

I'd love us to sign him personally, great squad player and he's never let City down when called upon. The type of player that would bring some much needed experience to our team.

I'd have him. One of those players that people just seem to dislike and not want for no good reason - he's the flip side to the overrated English vibe, a lot of people underrate him and just call him shit.

His mentality and work rate would be much appreciated at our club

Always thought the guy was good since I saw him play for the U21's in that game against Holland at WHL. Works his nuts off - a kind of 'Steed' but to the power of 10!

Would bring balance to a midfield containing Lamela and Eriksen.

I'd cry if we signed him. He's absolutely one of the least intelligent, production line coached, average players i've ever seen in the England squad. Very mechanical, he just does what he's been taught, go here, play that there, make this run, don't go here etc etc, there's absolutely no wit, skill or invention about him.

But there he is. Stealing a living at Man City and playing for England. Is that becuase he's that good or because managers want and like a safe option? What do I know. Fuck all probably. Onions.

Got to have players like him and Sandro or Capoue in your team so the really gifted players such as Eriksen and Lamela have the freedom to work their magic.

Rate him. Always have. Massively underrated, and often miscast as a "workhorse". A lot faster, skillfull and creative than he is given credit for. Obviously not as nippy as he was back in his youth at Leeds/Newcastle where he would happily skin 3 players and smash it in from 20 yards. But massively experienced, and would be a damn sight better on the wing than either of our current options.

Gritty type of character we are missing at present. Will play wherever he's needed and never complains as far as I know. Would provide a lot more than Lennon did last season.

Would like to see him a Spurs, if only to be the newest scapegoat...

I think he's been a good, consistent performer who has more skill than he's credited with and isn't shy of putting in a shift.

I also don't think you can have too many players in your team that are actually used to winning.

not a show stopping signing, but I think the sort of player we currently need in our midfield... can get stuck in, tidy player, creates a fair few goals and scores a couple too.. can play most positions across the midfield... you know exactly what you would be getting with him, can grab a game by the scruff of the neck when needed, and now has bags of experience.. rate him. Would be a good signing i think.

Actually really like Milner. He was absolutely fantastic at Villa before his City move, was probably more important than Ashley Young at the time.

There he played as a box to box in a three man midfield and was very effective. Scored quite a few ridiculous long range strikes.

The boring tag afforded to him has been due to his use as a defensive winger by England and a more tactical option by City managers.

He has good tactical knowledge which is a good thing, good experience and also good versatility. Plus homegrown.

If we wanted him as a winger I'd rather have Konoplyanka or McManaman at that sort of price (specialists). Problem is that our midfield is pretty stacked in CM so could only really bring him in if we sold Dembele or Paulinho for example. Transfer funds should be prioritised elsewhere unless he's replacing someone IMO
