Is it worth taking a punt on Steven Taylor and/or David Wheater??

Now i know they haven't exactly had great seasons, but you have to admit, they aren't bad players - and with Ledley needing a replacement every few games and Corluka not looking entirley comfortable as a CB understudy, don't you think it would be worth taking a punt on one OR both of these promising young CB's??

Thoughts??

......in fact, who else would we like from the stragglers? :)

Both are used to first team footy, neither would be prepared to be back up to Ledley, and IMO, no improvement upon Dawson. We could probably pick someone better and more experienced for the same price, probably cheaper.

No, both are shit.

Next season we have no europe, so our only midweek football will be 5 maximum carling cup games, and that's if we make a third final in a row.

On the basis of this season that is at least 34 (and 1 or two league games were rescheduled for midweek) weekend games, all of which Ledley is available for unless he gets a normal injury that any player could get.

I'd far prefer to see Dervite made 4th choice centre back after King, Dawson and Woodgate. Let us not forget that both Corluka and Chimbonda can cover centre back as well. Huddlestone too if he stays, which I think he will after his recent run of starts.

No. Wheater is the better of the two IMO. Taylor has pretty much been ruined from a promising young defender by Newcastle's mangerial ineptitude. Added to that, this season has seen him throw some very nasty intentional elbows on opposition players.

If we're going to sign a new CB he should be an improvment or at least in the same class as Woody and King, not easy to find when we're not competing in europe, and the only name I can come up with is Hangeland. He's been imense this season and he's also got the winningmentality and leadershipqualities we lack in the back four. Fulham is offering him a new longterm contract these days, but Hodgson is not sure if they're able to keep hold of him with Arse supposed to be in for him.

No to Taylor.
I think Wheater could be very useful in a proper line-up(not Boro) and he may possibly be happy with being baclup to our more experienced defenders.
On that basis I wouldn't want to pay alot for him.

Taylor reminds me of a young Titus Bramble, imposing yet error prone. Like Titus he may steady a bit but he's not better than what we have.

Wheater is very raw, and will stay at Boro. He's very much a Le Tissier or Gerrard type who will stay at his home club for life.

We should bid for Hangeland or that guy from City Nedan Uhonhu or whatever his name is, he is a class player

As for Taylor and Wheater no to both Dawson is better than both

You have to be having an absolute Rory with me?

Since Steven Taylor is not only one of the worst CB's in Premiership history, but also an idiotic thug, I'd suggest no? Jesus fucking Christ. Maybe we should go after Xisco yeah?

tbf to Taylor, he's the only one besides Bassong and occasionally Duff who have been trying their best to save Toon, so at least he has a decent attitude (still a thug though). He would want first-team football though, as would Wheater probably.

We dont need these two mediocre defenders blocking Dervite's path to the first team.
Have to give Dervite some game time, or we'll lose him .. and we will regret it!

Dervite just been called for the Toulon Tournament with the French U21 .
This tournament is well known by scouts as one of the best mercato market place.

wheater's a decent player, just southgate played him out of position all season. Taylor has been shocking for newcastle this season, mates a geordie, says his hearts in the right place but he doesn't think.

Steven Taylor makes Dawson look like Bobby Moore. He's embarrassingly fucking turgid. He wears the permanant expression of a playground simpleton on acid. If we sign him I will internally combust.

Weater's just plain averagely shit.
