Is it worth taking a punt on Steven Taylor and/or David Wheater??

Steven Taylor isnt even rated by the Newcastle faithful. I would just about have Bassong but I reckon he might be a one season wonder.

Taylor recently complained about his 60k wages not being enough for the work he does. He is a liability and has lapses in concentration.

Wheater on the other hand is decent, Southgate didn't mind losing Woodgate too much because Wheater came in and done a good job. It's just a shame about the shite around him (Huth)

Like someone said already, both are inferior to Dawson so it's not worth pursuing

Dawson looked better and better this season, with more stability in backline and playing alongside experienced CB like King or Woody, so he is more experienced than ever why help HR to get out the best of him.

when he was so average in recent years, he lacked all of these reasons which made him better this season.

I'm surprised that people would like HR to invest in both CB & LB, yes King, Woody & Ekotto suffered all serious injuries before, but i think for the best for the team not to do too much signings don't help the old and new arrivals, i think somone like Bassong or Distan would be ideal to do a job when we are missing a lot of players in backline.

With bassong in the same team, and some people want us to sign taylor instead. This sign english mentality at times irritate me to no end.
The good english players are over-priced and the affordable ones are mostly not enough for our ambition.

No and No.

Taylor is all heart, passion etc. He is wank at football in general though.

David Wheater on the other hand, he's tall, commanding, and also wank at football.

Both well suited in the Championship.

Depends on Ledleys knee I guess. If he can play 25 league games then I'd be happy with likes of Corluka, Daws and Dervitte for cover.

If not then the two players mentioned would provide decent cover and competion for our defence.

Possibly Wheater as a back-up player, although if Dervitte is all he's cracked up to be then i say give him the chance.

I'll echo others sentiments on here about Taylor.

In fact i don't think there's a single player from that hopeless bunch of barcodes that i'd want us to sign, maybe Guttierez, maybe.......

On the basis of this season, next season Ledley should play all but a few league games as he can play once a week and very few league games are actually scheduled for midweek. The only thing that will prevent this almost full participation is if he gets an injury that any player could get. On this basis, given that our only midweek games are likely to be Carling Cup, i see no reason to sign any new defender. King, Dawson, Woodgate are three centre backs ranging from very good to superb. Dervite is extremely promising and must be worth being in the first team squad by now. Corluka is more than able to switch from right back to centre back, and Chimbonda isn't bad there either. There's even Huddlestone as an option if he stays.

Taylor is a liability, just because he's a Geordie and 'wears his heart on his sleeve' doesn't mean he's good. He ain't.
