Spurs are on the verge of signing Inter Milan linked Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Lilywhites have an agreement to sign the 26-year-old for around €20 million plus add-ons after a whirlwind negotiations process with Empoli.

A 26-year-old for €20 mill instead of a 27-year-old for 30 mill!
What's not to like?

As back up to replace Forster or first choice instead of Raya ?
This is a key question. I don't think Forster needs replacing. I don't know anything about Vicario, but I hope this is well researched and thought through if this is to be our new Number 1.

I'm reasonably convinced Leicester got relegated because their keeper(s) for the whole season were completely inadequate. They paid a heavy price for it. Danny Ward was essentially out of his depth for the first half of the season and they were susceptible to all sorts of goals and additional defensive uncertainty becasue of it. He picked up a little, but not by much. Iversen did ok, or at least better than Ward for a time, but was also underwhelming.

Not saying this guy would be out of his depth. As I said, I know nothing about him. But Raya seems like a very solid and longer term option already that has proven he can handle this league. It'll be a shame if we repeat past mistakes with someone who needs a lot of acclimation to PL footy.

But, hey, he's €10millon euros cheaper... so what's your problem?

There's a thread on R/COYS with Italian fans giving the lowdown.

-Brilliant reflexes, he's very good at claiming high balls, can pass out with his feet and act as sweeper, currently 3rd choice NT.

On the downside, tends to parry back into danger.

That will be the Teflon gloves. A bit of a worry.

Unsurprisingly, some are responding like this is true.

Might be best to wait for deals to finalise before coming to any conclusions.
