What's new

I'd like to see a bit of responsibility shown by Levy & Co

How long now have Spurs fans been lamenting the state of our team?
Apart from the odd spurt of success (if you can call getting into the Champions league one time and winning the League Cup back in 2008), it's been a bit of a drought.

We have worked our way through a lot of managers, and yes many are responsible for much of the mess over the last few decades. But wouldn't it be nice for Levy & Co to stand up & make a statement about their responsibility in all of this? I don't ever remember upper management at Spurs ever holding their hands up & saying....yep, we've screwed up (a lot), put the wrong people in place, been involved in the wrong purchases of players, not spent money when it was glaringly obviously that we were only one or two players away from what we needed to push on.

I know it's not been all doom & gloom & that many fans of other clubs would absolutely love to be in our position....pushing for a top six spot constantly, but I would love to hear Levy & Co speak up, hold their hands up to say they have made mistakes, but this is what they plan to do moving forward etc etc.

When was the last time Levy did an interview? Was it after the Ramos sacking?

Why would anyone release a statement highlighting their own failures?

I'd think if other clubs had been in our position, they would have been making investments into the squad to make it better and further it along instead of letting it stay stagnant while the rivals keep getting better to the point that we go from pushing for top 2 or 3 in 11/12 to now pushing for top 6 in 14/15

What would that achieve? Isn't it pretty obvious they have made mistakes, and have briefly spoken about those in the usual, professional and diplomatic way (in the phrases used to signify the departures of TS, AVB and HR) that a company would?

Also, haven't they also helped us achieve considerable strides forward (training centre, youth team and development) and sponsorship deals as well as the painful process of trying to find a solution to a new stadium?

This is all in the face of teams splashing the cash from Sugar Daddy's (Chelsea & Man City), American $ (Man Utd & Liverpool) or release of purse strings after years of limited spending (Arsen*l)?

One could cite Everton (and now perhaps Southampton) as overtaking us in terms of pitch performance vs wages and squad expenditure, but as you correctly say, we do keep having new managers and overhauling our squad and I'm not sure these teams outperforming us necessarily equates to us doing badly.

Liverpool were there and despite spending money, are demonstrating how hard it is to compete in the top 2-3.

We do not have the income to compete in the top 2-3. We have to be realistic.

Khilari, I think what it does is gives the fans some idea that the management acknowledge they have made mistakes, but (hopefully) plan on fixing it.

Let's be honest, because their is very little communication, most of us don't have much of a clue as to what's going on behind the scenes etc.

And directors of companies do hold their hands up, say they have made mistakes, but that they are doing 'XYZ' to rectify things.

I think it would be a show of good faith for all the fans that spend their hard earned money on supporting the club & the money they spend on counseling that is needed for the never ending despair.

I think it was his "Modric's going nowhere" interview?

Unless you count his in depth interview in "clubfooted metrosexual dwarf monthly", which was hardly seen by anyone as it's a bit of a niche market.

Wasn't that just a Harry style "out of his car window" job?

I'm talking about a proper interview, like his one in "clubfooted metrosexual dwarf monthly".

Maybe. I wonder though, do many other clubs' owners do this? I think the likes of Tony Fernandes, Jack Walker (Blackburn) and Vincent Tan (nutter) are rare people who wear their hearts on their sleeves. Sometimes it works for the better (as you suggest it might) but often not.

Levy doesn't come across as the "give you a hug" / "pat on the back" / "rub your thigh" kind of guy, but I think as supporters (me included) we are all a bit precious and feel entitled to success. We have to accept that he's primarily a businessman and under his stewardship, we ought not to end up in debt in the Championship... at the expense of going all out all guns blazing for some crazy title tilt.

I mean look at what Newcastle supporters have to put up with from their Chairman? Pardew just happens to have discovered a magic wand of late. Hull, Blackpool, Coventry... examples where owners are insane/illegal.

What @Khilari says! What would it achieve? Logic and common sense suggest more con than pros.

In the grand scheme of things we have done ok mate. We are in a complete shark tank of a league. City and Chelsea have sewn up two of the top 4 spots permanently. We then have too compete with man utd (supposedly the most supported club in the world) and the goons who have so much more money available to them than us. Then liverpool (another huge fan base) who if they ever get themselves sorted out will be another juggernaut.

I'm depressing myself for some reason even typing this out :) We have done fine mate.

What sort of 'plans to move forward'? Serious question. Make better transfers, aim to win more games, build brand spanking new training ground, build new stadium... What else can they realistically say?

Chairman should be seen and not heard, or would everyone rather we had a Dave Whelan character shooting his mouth off left right and centre?

You do realise that not everyone is as daft as Dave Whelan right? Why pick such an absurd, unique character as your example? Bill Kenright speaks alot and he's made a damn fine job of Everton.
