Just wanted to say that I really do love this keeper and bar one mistake (which happens to every keeper) I thought he was brilliant tonight! He made some amazing saves and really kept us in the game in the first half.

Some may knock him for punching but that is just his style of keeping and it also doesnt mean he is unable to catch as he seems a very able catcher from previous games.

He is commanding of his area, a brilliant shit stopper, confident, agile and can throw the ball from here to timbuktu! and is a huge step up from robinson.

The only reason I am writing this thread is that those shit commentators from setanta got on his back immediatly after he made that mistake and claimed he might not be an adequete replacement for Robinson!

Hes a brilliant goalkeeper and our number one...lets not get on his back!

An unfortunate typo if ever I saw one, but thanks, you made me laugh on a fucking dire night.

For the record, I agree, loved how commanding he was in the box tonight, shame about the mistake, but that shovel of shit in front of him made more mistakes tonight.

He was MUSTARD today. With any other keeper we would be 3 down at half time. the pundits were overly harsh.

May come as a surprise to you gibbsy, but not for the first time I agree with you.

1-2 flattered us, and for that we can thank Gomes, plus a good contribution from Bale and a stunning block from JJ.

Speaking of which, yes, I've heard that too. I would say I heard it on the grapevine, but that would remind me of Cashley Cole and his mobile phone

yeah he was good...shame that we're having to stick buts and yets in there due to the 2nd goal ..but hopefully he's strong enough to pick himself up..as seen with robbo..mistakes bred lack of confidence and he never really recovered..

It's a shame we didn't have him when we played West Ham on the final game of the season.....

Good performance tonight, behind a woeful defence/midfield. Idiots on the sentanta show were comparing him to Bobby Mimms and suggesting he was no better than Robbo :bang:

To make matters worse Collymore starts laying into Ramos saying that not being able to speak a word of English is a reason why we're having problems :bang:

The Scottish git commentating on Sultana sucked big time!

Gomes kept us in the match first half, and got us a point at Chelscum.

He's already a Leg in my eyes, and a big improvement on our previous GK, much as I loved Robbo.

Thank Gawd some fans are supporting him, after I've heard the usual moaning gits tonight for whom everything is either black or white - ALWAYS!

GOMES ROCKS!

See this thread makes me happy. I just hope Gomes realizes we rate him and the press does not mess him up like they did with Fabien Barthez.

Did you see JJ's tattoo when he stripped after Mdric limped off? Almost a sleeve? Prison sex crossed my mind until I saw that posh strumpet behind the dugout.

:oops::grin:

Sultana were saying the same thing all match! Making jokes about him "refusing to learn English".

How thick are these people who work in the media, and don't bother to do their homework about a club before broadcasting?

Anyway, I've just read my first "Ramos Out" post on another forum I post on (DS), and according to one gobby Villa fan, "Your GK was suspect all night".

I seriously despair.

Oh, and JJ's new tatts were totally OTT! :eek:mg:
He must've spent all Summer getting his whole arm done cos it wasn't there last season.

Footballers, enough with the gross tattoos already! PLEASE!

One or two is okay, but not half your flippin' bodies like Becks! :duh:

Paul Walsh was doing the game for ESPN (with the ever-excellent Martin Tyler) and after Gomes came for that double-fisted punch then recovered to scramble Agbonlahor's header not only out of the goal but wide (take notes P. Robinson, Blackburn) said "He really should have caught that."

Once again, everyone (especially commentators) seem to ignore just how difficult goalkeeping has become in the past couple of seasons - not least due to the new balls.

With that in mind, I haven't seen many better keepers so far this season than Gomes.

Thought he made good saves to keep us in the game but can't be defended for Young's winning goal. Quite sure he'll bounce right back quickly, his character seems stronger than his predecessor.

Now, I did enjoy the Gomes show in the first half. His punching, his saves.
He really does have the longest extendable arms I've ever seen.

The first goal, I would actually blame Zoko and Hudd for.
It was a rubbish cross from Young, Barry and Reo-Coker came running in from midfield on the 18 yard box on their own.

Zoko and HUdd had both been sucked into the wing by Young. Ridiculous midfield defending if ever I saw it.

As for Gomes' mistake, yes it was a howler, and I am sure this keeper is strong enough to not let it effect him, but what on earth was Dawson doing with his so called tackle on Young.
Were the hell were our 2 defensive midfielders whilst he ran through?

Same old stuff, our midfield defense letting people run through us.

Well I saw him have a lengthy conversation with Lennon and JJ so unless them 2 speak fluent spanish I think his english is not a problem for them, I read somewhere he said he don't like the english press hence not speaking to them.

I'm more worried about his russian as Pav seemed a bit lost at times

Yeah i really felt for him, he was probably our best player. Commanding with crosses and an excellent shot stopper. If it wasn't for him it would probably have been 4-0 in the first half. Just unfortunate that he made that error, however Dawson should have actually done some defending and stopped Young. Dawson was truly shocking last night.
