Harry's greatest mistake...

Harry Redknapp can remember being afraid to put Gareth Bale's name on the team sheet. This time last year the Welshman had played 24 Premier League games forTottenham Hotspur without ever finishing on the winning side. He was weighed down by the statistic and he was not the only one. "It was a burden for me," Redknapp said after watching Bale's latest master class. "Sir Alex Ferguson said to me: 'How can you pick him? I couldn't pick him.' I'm superstitious, so it was difficult.

Oh I see, we believe ITK when it's not what we want to hear :)

The truth is, our Manager/Head Coach, signs nobody, it's all dear Daniel...

Redknapp sat in a press conference and said he could have signed Suarez but "was advised by our scout" that he was too similar to VDV.

Did he actually say he could've signed him, or was he just covering his arse?

Would we have spent £20m on any player? Would we fuck.

The man didn't always make a lot of sense.

"We looked at Suarez," said Redknapp. "That was a player who we probably should have took, looking back on it now.

"The fee was £30-odd million and that's a lot of money. We thought he played a bit like Van der Vaart as well.

"We thought about signing him but we weren't in to spending £35m on one player."

"We kept looking at (Suarez) but people thought he couldn't play up as a striker," Redknapp said, adding that he had sent numerous scouts to watch the Uruguayan at Ajax.
"They said he's like Rafa (van der Vaart) and you can't have him and Rafa or you'd have two players who want to drop deep, so that was the problem.
"We were looking for someone to play up front with Rafa. People said he couldn't do that, he drifts and comes deep.
"But he played up front on his own the other night (against Fulham) and he was fantastic."

...was believing he had the England job all wrapped up and forgetting about the job he already had.

ITK/Media chatting rubbish or not but during Harry's tenure we were strongly linked with KJH/Suarez/Cavani/Rossi/LD and ended up getting none of them. This summer we need to chat/posture less and just get the target we want before pre-season. Give him time to settle so that we can hit the ground running from day 1 of the new season....

To clarify...

Basically Ian Broomfield passed on him. Harry should have had the nouse to see how good he was though, he's been in the game long enough, as he loves to remind everyone. Hindsight's beautiful, but you just wonder what we could have done this season with Bale and Suarez together...
Sounds like more blame shifting again from HR that. Scouts job is to give their opinion but ultimately the manager decides if he wants him or not, then Levy & Co kick in to do the £ side of the deal if he is wanted. Suarez would have fitted the profile of a player Levy likes to sign, put simply HR didn't rate him....

At the time we had VdV playing in a similar role and doing very very well.
I'm glad we didn't go for Suarez in the end
Absolutely no guarantee whatsoever that he'd show the same form for us that he has up there

Doesn't matter though with Levy does it?

Did AVB rate Dempsey? Did HR rate Pienaar/Saha/Nelsen?

Levy signs who Levy wants. And he'll continue to do so.

Harry rated Pienaar very highly. He was the "special player" that Harry wanted to sign according to Ryan.

I've got no idea if Nelson was a Harry player, or a Levy player, but Harry was certainly singing his praises at QPR recently.
