It's also worth noting that it has taken Suarez has taken over a season and a half to score more than 1 in 3. Last season he had one of the worst shots to goals ratios in the league.

Van Persie scored 10 goals in 52 games in his first two seasons.

Not to say we shouldn't have bought Suarezor Van Persie but all I ever hear on this board is 'if we buy a £20m striker we'll be guaranteed top 4.'

The reality is that most of our top players take time to get to level. BAE, Sandro and Bale and took a couple of seasons to get to level.

I hope we buy a striker this seaon but if we do well it is will be with Ade on top form.
So many people on here write off strikers we're linked with and say we need a top class one, trouble is we can't afford or lure one here so we need to find an up and coming one or we'll never get one

He was maybe just a regular little uruguyan fellow who got scousified, ever thought about that? Maybe he would have been a stand up guy if played in a proper team in a proper city?

After handballing like a basketball player in the world cup (though you can argue that many players would have done the same) and biting someone's ear off in Eredivise it's already clear he wasn't a respectable fellow. Also he played great in the world cup, but perhaps wasn't noticed as much when playing alongside Forlan.

Say £10-£15mill?
I would, I still think Torres is a quality player and would be a great suit to us playing up top as the one.

I think our team and club are a better match for him than those blackguards down't road. I honestly can never see him coming good at Chelsea, far too much baggage and turmoil now.

To clarify...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/may/13/harry-redknapp-tottenham-luis-suarez
"We kept looking at [Suárez] but people thought he couldn't play up as a striker," said Redknapp.
"They said he's like Rafa [van der Vaart] and you can't have him and Rafa or you'd have two players who want to drop deep, so that was the problem. We were looking for someone to play up front with Rafa. People said he couldn't do that, he drifts and comes deep. But he played up front on his own the other night [against Fulham on Monday] and he was fantastic."

Basically Ian Broomfield passed on him. Harry should have had the nouse to see how good he was though, he's been in the game long enough, as he loves to remind everyone. Hindsight's beautiful, but you just wonder what we could have done this season with Bale and Suarez together...

Yeah I remember those quotes too. If Redknapp would have come out and told the truth though for once by saying 'Suarez...? For over £20m...? You have met Daniel Levy before...?', then perhaps it would have not been as well received.

I know we were in the champions league and Liverpool weren't but how can we be sure he wouldn't have turned us down if we were seriously interested ?

Most people saw that season as a blip. Everyone outside of Spurs expected us to have a yr in it - in which we'd be humiliated what with our group of death an all - and then Pool would be back the next season once that fat forrun weirdo was gorn.

I even heard some of the same shit spouted by Spurs fans. There'd be no pushing on, just enjoy this brief moment of joy etc.

So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Suarez thought the same - coupled with wages well north of 100K he wouldn't get with us. I'm not convinced he'd have jumped at the chance to join. Most people in football have very limited intellects and vision. They buy into the narrative unthinkingly. Then switch quickly and without giving their previous and erronious position a second's thought.

It's only really this season that the press didn't expect Pool to seriously challenge the likes of ickle old us and even then most of them went for chelsea and assnal easily wrapping up the top 4 spots. Can't say I blame them myself, especially not with the money chelsea spent. Still, it's been almost 4 seasons now and we're only finally really accepted as credible/worthy threats to the top 4 now in these last few months.

I am ashamed Misfit. I was one of those people :depressed:
You are dead to me! DEAD!

You quickly realised your error though no doubt. Just wait, even if we get 3rd this season and manage to buy a class front man. We'll be given an outside chance of top 4 at best by the media come the start of next season.

I fully admit, I was expecting a top 6 finish this season but only because of the details and massive changes that were occuring at the club. Forgive me for being cynical but I very much doubt that was the explanation of our glorious sports media. More like "*Ugh* Spudz shit. Harry was genius architect. *burp* Saved from relegation. Liverpool *grunt fnnngh* you'll never walk alone. Arsenal, Wenger, cafe latte, mini-Barca *fart*" etc etc

I thought Harrys biggest mistake was going missing for the end of last season.

Suarez may be a very talented player, but I'm not sure about the overall package.

You forgot the season before that... 4th was in our hands that year too.

H's biggest mistake was actually rubbing Joe Lewis up the wrong way it seems. Everything else is just detail.
