Actually, thinking about this some more, wondering whether it’s worth going in for him now anyway, rather than spending money on a punt?

I know it’s far from ideal having to “make do” for the first half of the season with what we have though.
Or sign him in January?

Disagree, we need to bring in a proper goalscorer.
I don't see anyone out there who is a guaranteed goalscorer any more so that Richarlison. Granted, we haven't seen much of this from him but I think it's in there if give a run of games.

Who do you propose that we could realistically buy?
The question of whether a player would be willing to join us is an entirely different one. Removing that from the equation, Vlahovic, Kolo Muani, Martinez or David could probably be bought for that.

Can't see us spending big on a forward. We have 4 players that can play there and Kane going is an opportunity for all 4 of them to make that spot their own. I could see us going to raid palace for Guehi and Eze, and then getting a cut price deal done for Toney to come in in Jan.

But I'm clueless so we'll probably spunk £80m on Lukaku.

I'd love to know who
Indeed. That's what the scouting network is for though. I like the sound of Orban but also want someone who has played at a higher level. Even Kulusevski is similar age but played a high level in a strong league. It's good to take a risk on youth but I would be more confident if we had an established attacking player too. We've instantly lost a 30 goal striker and still have Richarlison so only adding a prospect is not enough.

I think we need to back Richarlison this season. Give him a chance and see what he can do. The money from Kane needs to go on a top defender who can make an immediate impact.
I’d be ok with this but we still need another senior no. 9 at the club as competition and/or genuine cover for Richarlison. Given his injury record (and current injury concerns) I’m worried that we’ll need to throw one if Veliz/Scarlett in on a regular basis.

There is some serious revisionism going on here about how the Bale money was spent.

We broke our transfer record to sign Paulinho, who had just set the Confed Cup alight and was a hot property. Then, we broke it again, to sign Soldado - a proven goalscorer from the continent. We broke it a third time that window to sign Lamela, who was an incredibly exciting young player. We then added Eriksen and Chadl, Champions League players who were improvements on what we had. The only real punts we took were Capoue (who ended up being a more than decent Premier League midfielder, post-Spurs) and that mad-lad, Vlad. We don’t talk about him.

Overall, not good ROI. But it is only now, in hindsight, that we can say this. At the time the fans were happy with the acquisitions, and the club was hailed for its good business.

I think people underestimate the baggage he comes with. Knowing a little more than has made the press about a number of off field issues, he could cause disruption down the line.

I think we are lucky we still have another Golden Boot winner in our team who's capable playing in the middle. I still think we'll struggle to find anyone better than Son's goal scoring abilities and there's very much more of a market in finding another winger that compliments our team. Striker market is just awful if you want anyone half established. Son, Richy and someone like Gift Orban should be enough for a team that is playing once a week imo

Well, I suppose the old debate of ‘x player won’t come here as he won’t want to play second fiddle to Kane’ is moot now.

Exactly. you pay enough money, anyone would come here. Premier League is a massive draw, and we’re still a huge club despite being currently bat shit crazy.

Made the same point last night when someone said we bought players in from the “scrapheap”!!

I think people need to get the idea out of their heads that we need to "replace" Kane. We can't and we shouldn't be trying to. Kane is irreplaceable but equally we have been depending on him SO heavily for too long.

One thing that Ange gives us is a system that doesn't need a world class number 9 for it to work, and potentially thrive. We outplayed Spanish champions, Barcelona the other night (for 70 mins at least) with half a 2nd string and certainly no Harry Kane. That was because of the system.

Richarlison will play the 9 role and, if we're honest, is actually a "better fit" in Ange's system than Kane. Kane would have still be brilliant, of course, but we wouldn't have so desperately needed that, like we did for the past 3 years. I also think Son would be a brilliant 9 in this system.

I'm comfortable with Kane going, unlike a lot of fans, and I think getting £100m+ for him at 30 yrs old and 1 yr left on his deal is good, solid business. I also think, as much as many wanted him for one more year, that's people letting their hearts rule their heads and Kane going out of the PL for 100m is a FAR better outcome than him joining Chelsea in a year's time for nothing. We then face him at least twice a season and THAT, my friends, would've been gut wrenching.

Of course, all of the above is made more palatable if we take that money and go sign a number of good players. Seen a bit of twitter ITK (I know) that we're targetting Orban, Eze, Douglas Luiz and a CB with the Kane money and anything made from sales of Hojbjerg, Ndombele etc. If that happens, I'll be happy and feeling really optimistic about our future.

Everything is gonna be ok.

Noted some querying if we actual reinvest the Kane money, for optics alone, we must be seen to reinvest that money, it will be new levels of toxicity if we sell one of our greats and just pocket (or claim we already spent) the proceeds.
