So his first step towards mending with the fans is lying to us?

That tweet is insulting our intelligence. At least admit what you've done. If the Kane's believe they can 'control' this narrative they will just keep digging their own graves.

Actually a simple sorry would have sufficed. But he hadn't mentioned that at all. He said he wouldn't jeopardise the relationship with us, no Harry, you had in fact taken us for a ride, again.

He just sank deeper with each day, with each move, with each action he takes until he admits his mistake and apologise. If not it just makes this saga all the more disappointing each time. ?

Agree. If he wanted to move he could have just said sorry with a statement that he feels it’s time to move on but until he does he will train and give 100% for the club

Think that would have gone down better

this is just him back tracking and hedging his bets

who would have thought Harry Kane of all the model and ultra bland pro would have made So many errors around his communication and behaviour in succession

Sorry if already posted- Jack G has been given City no10 shirt
Not looking good for HK
I don't hang too much on that because city want a number 9 apparently.

"I haven't refused to train - how could I train if I'm not even in the England!"
In fairness to him (not that he seems to deserve much of that) he has done rehab/warm weather training in Barbados before.

Again I don't know the full details if there was any agreement to delay his return, on the one hand an extended period of leave could have been agreed given the high volume of minutes he's played.
The counter to that is I'm sure the club would have spoken up louder about such an agreement, so as excuses go he's on boggy ground with that one.

There were rumours posted on here that he’s been telling England team mates he was going to boycott traininif he didn’t get his move as well.

Don’t know if that’s true but very poor if it is.

Personally I’d still keep him as he’s one of the best centre forwards around and I’d like to see how he does under a half-decent coach (not a dinosaur) surrounded by hopefully some new signings to freshen things up.

I think it would be good for football for player power not to win for once and actually show players can’t just do what they want to get their own way.

But I would really really like it if we bought some top quality competition for him so we’re not so reliant on him and have a plan B up top (disappointed as really though Vinny could provide that but even though was Mourinho’s supposed top choice was a bit of a waste of time).
I've been mulling that one over; how many city players were in Englands euro squad plus Grealish who I'm sure was aware a bid was incoming.

I agree with the rest of your reply too, IF he ends up staying hopefully it brings a halt to the massive outside influence he may have had on things such as managerial matters, playing when unfit, even having a say in team line-ups, if he knuckles down and we set a precedent maybe we all come out of this stronger.
IF he stays I could see Levy or someone strongly suggesting he gets professional management & under them a new deal is drawn up with a release fee included.
He'd have a lot of fences to rebuild for sure but I'd rather have Kane inside the tent spitting out rather than outside the tent spitting in!

With two years left on a deal he'd still be a £120 million odd player, as I've said before why should THFC assist city by selling our wanted asset that we've no desire to sell, on the cheap & accept players they actively want rid of in order to aid that deal? If they were including e.g Foden, Ederson, Diaz, KDB etc okay you perhaps make a good case for swapsies but what's being suggested isn't comparing apples with apples.

I find that thinking a bit baffling, let alone some of the numbers I'm seeing as acceptable to some on here, I don't know enough about the two suggested most often La Porte and Silva but okay I'll play; what values are you putting on them?
Now value them again as players city are desperate to offload to make way for our best player who we value at £200 mill and not only do we not want to sell we don't need to sell, don't forget we are also losing a HG club trained player to a rival in the same league and adding another two foreign players, quite honestly I think the £120 mill cash plus those two is a little light but I also don't know enough about them, although did La Porte not blow his knee to bits last season?

city want our best player but don't want to reciprocate with theirs or compensate with fair valuation; it's all very simple pay up or fuck off and sing wonder wally!

I get you, except there's been alot of noise coming out that Levy went back on a promise.,... hopefully the truth will come out soon.

It's stunning how every thread of this story leads back to objectively poor representation on the part of CK.

The Neville interview? The birthday incident? The sojourn to the Bahamas and the COVID cesspool immediately to the west? Biting on a clearly insulting offer from City? Awful guidance.

The "gentleman's agreement" is the part that drive me most insane. The whole point of a contract is to bind the other party to the terms that you hope them to abide by. In my line of work (and I assume any other one, but especially a top six club), if a counterparty stiffs me and I don't have it in writing, I can't go cry to my boss because it's ultimately my mistake at the end of the day. It's especially unforgivable when there's a history of Levy allegedly maximizing his leverage in the grey areas.

Not difficult to believe but I see no reason to just assume this happened when there's nothing to suggest it has.

Edit: FFS, for some reason.

Same. Judging by Levy's previous, I wouldn't have thought he'd sit in a room for half a hour with Charlie Kane and have his arm twisted into agreeing to anything, let alone a concrete release fee on a handshake.

If this pair were on Judge Judy, even she'd be laughing at them.

I'm not sure what Levy could really have promised.

I think Kane clearly wants to achieve major honours and after the demise of Poch and the failure of Jose it's very possible he sees the chance to do that with us is unlikely, certainly not guaranteed.

So I can understand how we can blame Levy in regards to how he has run the club. But I see no reason to think Kane is leaving based on a promise by Levy being broken.
That's not what I was saying, no one is suggesting Harry wants to leave based on a broken promise by Levy, more like Harry wanted to leave last season, and Levy may have promised him he may leave if he gave Mourinho one more year to bring success, once Mourinho left Harry decides to go and Levy has none of it.
The question is was a figure promised? If so and City won't meet it then Levy is in the right, but why would Harry be upset with us if City won't pay the promised fee that would allow him to go?
We are all guessing, but I find it hard to believe Harry is acting like a cock without some reason.

Life lesson for the Kane’s … a formal contract trumps a gentleman’s agreement.

We are guessing but given our history of selling our elite players for very high prices under Levy I find it very hard to believe that he'd agree to any fee for Kane on a gentlemen's agreement.

If Levy has never done it before and his ways of doing business are consistent then our educated guess is surely that he hasn't done things completely differently this time around.

Needs to shut up, get his head down and work harder than ever now. If he does stay and I think we should keep him then we have to move on. It will take time and we will not forget but that doesn't mean we can't put it aside. He should not play for a bit, maybe just the CL games for now and we go from there. I'm not sure we'll sing he's one of our own again to be honest. Maybe in time we might adopt the Rose chant to him instead. Such a shame he has tarnished such a wonderful career with us. It's not irreparable but this week will leave a mark on his time here.

In my opinion, this statement is intentionally ambiguous and will not be the last one he makes. He clearly feels that the City move may not transpire and wants to save a little bit of face in case he has to return with his tail between his legs, but he also doesn't want to commit towards staying or apologising on the off chance that he gets his move.

At the end of all this there will be a second, probably pre-written statement either apologising and committing to stay, or thanking the fans following his move. This statement says nothing and is a total waste of fucking time, a pathetic attempt to pacify a situation caused and made worse by himself.
In my opinion it fits with what I suspect which is narrative from the club to help the fans stomach selling him. Love that he's put that out.

He tried his luck on the off chance of tripling his wages, but totally mis-read the room.
He’s now realised he’s not going anywhere, and it’s time to backpedal.

He’s not killed anyone, he hasn’t wiped his arse on a Spurs shirt in the centre circle, or set fire to photo of Bill Nicholson.

We don’t HAVE to sell him now, and we’d be absolute mugs to - he’s miles better than anything we could get for the money.
And it’s possible that the shame and embarrassment over this situation could be a huge motivator- what better way to make it all go away than score a shit load of goals.

For what it's worth, I don't want Kane to leave. And although his statement is either not believed or not accepted by the majority of people on here, it is the ONLY thing he can do to start repairing and accepting he is here for a longer term than he had actipated.

So I for one welcome today's statement.

I sort of welcome the statement because the season starts in 8 days and we'll need everyone we've got.

I still think he's full of shit, and I don't expect he'll ever acknowledge what he's done.

Most importantly though I want the club to stand up to City, to hold out for our price, and not incentivise other clubs / players doing this again.

To do that they'll need the leverage that the fans won't make his presence in the team toxic and untenable.

I won't boo Kane at Spurs, I won't cheer Kane at Spurs.

I'll cheer Spurs, Son, and the lads.

The thing that upsets me the most is just how half-arsed that 'statement' is.

All it says is "I'm upset fans are questioning my professionalism". Then maybe don't act unprofessionally?

The statement itself just leaves him hedging his bets with city. If he really wanted to put this to bed he could have come out and said that he's a Spurs player determined to win us silverware this year. He didn't.

There's nothing about being committed to the club. Nothing about honouring his contract. Nothing about giving it his all to see us win something.

Don’t forget, end of this season Haaland’s €75m release clause is activated. There’s a lot of young players who could rise in the coming 12 months like Watkins (Villa), Scarlett (Spurs) Abrahams (Chavscum) Saka (Arsescum), Hoppe (Schalke), Moukoko (Dortmund). At least half those lads could potentially be better than Kane, particularly Moukoko.

This was Kane’s chance to move off the back of a big scoring season and Euros. He just handled it badly and now it looks like the chance has gone. He might well have to stay with us for the next 2/3 years. He needs to knuckle down.
