no the Guardian was being disingenuous. Seriously, the migrant worker death rate in Qatar is 1 in 333 per year according to them. What should it be? Thats about the same death rate for men aged 45-50 in the US and UK. Whats the average age of a migrant worker in Qatar?
Where are you finding your figures? I mean, the Guardian could have lied, but most sources quote their findings that 12 migrant workers die per week.

https://www.lifegate.com/qatar-6500-workers-dead-world-cup

Mohammad Shahid Miah, who arrived in Qatar from Bangladesh, was electrocuted in his apartment because running water came into contact with some electrical wires. Madhu Bollapally, 43, from India, died of “natural causes“, though his family claims he was in excellent health. According to Qatari authorities, 80 per cent of the Indian migrants who died did so as a result of “natural causes”. It’s suspected that this wording likely covers up many cases of cardiac or respiratory attacks caused by excessive heat or unsafe working conditions.

And while not all will die on the construction site, the conditions for migrant workers is terrible, as they have little to no legal recourses.

no, your link is just a sensational misrepresentation of the Guardians more nuanced misrepresentation. 6500 migrant workers have died in 10 years. Doesnt say how, or what they were working on. As Ive said, Qatar has relied on migrants long before the world cup and has 2 million of them. They arent all building stadiums or hotels for the cup. But again, what should the death rate be amongst the migrant population in Qatar?

Ah look, I don't want to debate this endlessly. I didn't say all migrants died building world cup stadiums. I said they've built their success on the backs of migrant workers. There is no working class in Qatar. There is the middle class, the rich, and the ultra rich. And you can question death rates all you want, but it's common sense to realise that Qatar hasn't cared all that much about the welfare of the migrant workers that enable their construction of buildings, hotels, and stadiums. Not sure why you're so deadset on defending Qatar of all places, but I've said my piece. I don't support them, and will never support their football team (which somehow is where all this started). Look forward to chatting on the next subject. ?

This referee in the canada/costa rica game

Loves to sprint into the action when he calls a foul. Already got in the way of play once.

It's such CONACAF thing. Don't need cards or match management - just need to look good in the jersey and sprint everywhere.

Oh Canada...

They're finally becoming a second tier team in CONCACAF.

I've watched the ref (he's American) for some time. He's certainly doing a lot more of the sprint to every foul and run for running sake compared to his usual MLS style. You can tell he's changing his style for what his bosses want. But I can understand it because he has aspirations for a deep World Cup run next year.

Yeah, I've seen him a few times in mls. He's alright really. That incident just made me laugh. He was bailed out when the canada defender was fouled basically right on top of him.

Not sure about that foul. Though not as ridiculous as the ivory coast red card in the olympics.

Busio has impressed again. Dike again anonymous. I am not convinced by him.

It's just so frantic. There's no one who wants to get on the ball and control tempo. Everyone just wants to kick the ball forward as fast as possible.

Hoppe! Took a lot of really bad touches tonight, but probably our best attacking player. He’s been linked to Spurs quite a bit in the American press this summer, but I doubt there is anything real in it.

there arent any aside from Pulisic who have the ball control you're accustomed to. When Dempsey (who I rate as the best American ever before Pulisic) played for us you could see that compared to his teammates his close control was woeful.

Qatar wont sit back like Jamaica and concede possession. They are "damn the torpedoes full speed ahead".
They've conceded possession in 3 of the 4 games they've played. The only team they out possessed was Grenada. They like to attack, but they can't defend. I mean they shipped 5 goals to really poor Panama and El Salvador teams. We've only given up 1 goal all tournament and it was a penalty. Obviously the US has struggled going forward, but I think we match up better against Qatar than the normal CONCACAF teams we play. Mexico with their A team will probably put us to the sword in the final, but I think Qatar is overrated.
