Last night in the gold cup semi final Guzan was called for a handball when he threw the ball from the box and his hand crossed the 18 yard line, feet still in the box. The resulting free kick was the deciding goal. I know its a valid call, I have just never seen that called, and Id wager the action happens frequently. Anyone ever seen this called in a top flight game? (I know the gold cup doesnt qualify as top flight).

I must admit I always assumed that if the feet were in the box then that was fine. Seems an unneccesary rule really unless a keeper has 8ft arms.

If that were true then by diving you could save the ball 6' outside the area so long as your toes were just inside the 18 yard box.

Only thing that matters where the ball is. If ball and hand were outside the area, it's irrelevent where his feet are.

Feet can be out side the box, but the ball has to be inside.

Im sure that there have been a few called, not many, or ones that i can recall off the top of my head

seems to me like something that if you watched for you could see in a lot of games. those guys are always at the edge of the box.
