Would likely be us out of the 'big six' to miss out as well, you'd assume.

Unless because it's a European competition and they consider success in Europe more meaningful than domestic success. In which case it would be Arsenal to miss out because we've been in the CL much more consistently than them recently.

I hope we would miss out. It sounds utterly terrible. An away ticket would be expensive too. All those flights and hotels. No basically no away fans would attend games because of the cost.

It’s the American owners driving this. I wish they’d just fuck off.

The talk is 5 from England would be invited (so assume we would miss out)
3 from Spain, 3 from Italy (assume Juve Inter AC) 2 from Germany 1 or 2 from France and the rest from other countries (e.g. Benfica Porto Ajax Shakhtar, maybe Zenit)

Suits the other teams. They’ve been pissed off we gate crashed their party for the best part of a decade.

It said in the Sky article that we had been spoken to about it (along with the others in the big boys club).

I'm completely against the idea, but if we were included as the expense of Arsenal I think it would be worth destroying the sport for.

The five should be chosen based on success in major European competition (so UEFA/ Europa, champions league/ European cup and cup winners cup). None of this super cup or intertoto bollocks.

It’d end up Liverpool with 9, Utd with 6, Chelsea with 5, us with 3 and Nottingham Forest with 2.

Surely more posturing from the big teams to ensure uefa play ball on any demands they have for CL revenue etc?

I don't disagree with this, but the problem with missing out would be the money falling out of the premier league and the club... our best players will want to be playing at the highest level and earning top tier money.

True. This is a competition to replace the champions league so levy would want the club in it. My worry would be that some teams wouldn’t be able to be relegated from it as was proposed a couple of years ago. In fact I would say there’s a near certainty of that being a stipulation of it.

That's what the Yanks want mate, guaranteed income without the risk.
You'll end up with 3/4 teams seriously competing for the title, and everyone else just going through the motions, picking up their cash.

This will simultaneously ruin all of the top leagues in Europe, it's a fucking disgraceful idea.

If we aren’t involved we will be up shit creek. Money will disappear, we will need to sell our best players to pay for the stadium.

The whole things utterly disgraceful. Utd and Liverpool in particular should be ashamed of themselves.

I actually think the champions league has got boring with mostly the same teams winning it. If we aren’t in it, I wouldn’t even really bother watching. A league would be even worse. It would get very dull very quickly.

Problem is, it’s the other European clubs seeing how much money the PL teams make and they want to compete with those levels of cash. I suspect they are really the ones driving this but Liverpool and Man U are more than happy to go along with it.

I would not worry about the best players wanting to play in this yank thing because it could end up being so divisive .
For instance UEFA and FIFA say to all these clubs any of your players that play in your competitions are banned from EUFA and FIFA comps .
The premier league and the rest of the EFL cubs could say fine you want to play in this yankee crap than you will not be allowed in any English league and once out you will not be allowed back . So any player. that joins this crap will in essence bar himself from all other football including world cups and european championships all I can say is good luck with that .
The rest of football far from giving in to these threats they should go on the attack.
Shakta Donekst v whoever will be a great game for instance .

FIFA are backing this. They want a share (or to simply take over all) of UEFAs club football power, this is a political move for them as much as for the clubs.

I have not read that FIFA are Backing it but if they are it is just their attempt to undermine EUFA .
If they have to Eufa could go alone in their opposition to this and believe it or not they are very powerful apart from the 18 clubs from say 6 leagues allowed into the yank club the rest of Europe will be against it and I would imagine the countries that will be allowed say 1 or 2 or 3 clubs the rest of the league that these 1 or 2 or 3 clubs come from will be very anti this .
Ultimately it could come down to do you want to be run by Eufa or Liverpool and Man Unt .

You take out the 18 biggest clubs from Europe and it’s the beginning of the end for European domestic football

Interesting that it’s FIFA backed. I always thought that FIFA would oppose this type of thing and could ban players from being eligible form World Cups if they are involved in such leagues.
