Turned over to MOTD last night to watch the Everton game. Delighted to see Woodgate playing, but most of all I was interested to see how he would react when the opposition went to shoot at goal. Would he turn away in cowardly girly fashion :eek:mg: like many of our defenders :oops::oops:? Or would he stand tall, try to block the shot, and take a hit for Spurs? I didn't have to wait long to see. Don't recall who was taking the shot. I was more interested to see what Woodgate would do. He charged  at the Everton player, hands in to avoid damaging the goolies or giving away a penalty, and he took the goal bound shot full on. At last we have a defender who can show the rest what the right way to defend against a shot is. None of this girly turning away from the ball.

Finally a brave defender. Ledley may be the King, but Woodgate is a Warrior:evil:. All hail Woodgate the Brave.:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:.

One little thing I noticed was that when someone had a shot against us, and it was past Woodgate, he would turn and run towards goal. Our other defenders usually just stand still and watch the ball, which has cost us several goals that have been blamed on Robbo because he's parried it and no defender has helped him out by getting there before a striker and clearing it. It looks as though Woodgate will do this though, so hopefully our other defenders will learn from this.

For an example, in our FA Cup game against Reading at White Hart Lane, Hunt scored his second goal after Robbo parried a shot wide and Hunt got there long before any defender was even in site to slot the ball into the back of the net. I don't blame Robbo for that goal at all, I blame the defenders, and as such hopefully we can eradicate that now if Woodgate will help our other defenders learn to always get to the ball first.

I think Robbo, if stays, will recover his form once he regularly has either (hopefully both) King or Woody in front of him.

Huddlestone is looking good, probaley at Dawsons level. Dawson himself will learn his trade now from not only King but Woody as well and will excel! Kaboul, well he's got alot to learn yet, but has potential.

CB should be all good for at least this season lol

It's no surprise Woodgate is good, he's one of the best defenders in the country and has proven that time and again. Fitness has always been the concern and hopefully he'll come good. But don't understand the general shock so far

Hang on. What about Dawson? If your talking purely 'brave' then there is none more braver than Dawson.

Was there word about why King wasn't playing or even in the squad?

Good to see another clean sheet from yet another new defensive combination. Ramos does have something extra.

Sad to see we're still lacking in creativity in midfield.

I agree with most of our defenders, but you cant say King doesn't do this. I noticed as soon as he was back he was the only player to turn and sheild the ball for the keeper prity much.

Woodgate and King at the back though..... just hope it can happen.

agreed - i was going to say the same.

no question that woodgate is a higher quality defender but i wouldn't say we've been lacking in "braveness" with daws

I'm afraind to say it but yes Dawson has been known (Adebayor's goal at the Lane) to take his eye off the ball and turn away from a shot :eek:mg: rather than go towards the ball and close it down. But I believe if the Warrior Woodgate is seen to close down the shot and take a slap in the face for Spurs if he has too then I believe Dawson will also. Generally there has been an improvement under Ramos. Against Sunderland there was a willingness to put themselves in the line of fire. However Lee and Malbranque against United failed to stand tall against Tevez and Ronaldo's goal bound shots.

Well obviously I didn't mean Ledley! Ledley is the best player in the world.

You having a "woody" over him after only one game? I think your assessment is weighted with bias.

In my opinion King and Dawson (although not as good as woody) have done the same over and over again, so "dising" them the way you are makes me wonder what type of supporter you are.

I wonder if you will start another thread when he shies from his first ball. Yes he is brave alright, ask that innocent bloke that he and his friends messed up but got away with on a technicality. I would like to call you something but the last time I did I was warned.......... but there you go.

My enthusiasm over Woodgate is also tempered by the Asian student incident. I know it was a long time ago and he was a lot younger, but it's difficult to really like a player with that sort of thing in his past. If he'd received punishment for it, then I'd say it's in the past and finished, but he didn't.

If Lee Bowyer ever played for Spurs (not going to happen, just hypothetically speaking), then I wouldn't be able to drum up much enthusiasm for him either.

It's very difficult, because by all accounts Woodgate really is an excellent player, and he is a Spurs player and I do want to support him as fully as any other, but there will always be that incident niggling at the back of my mind.

Still, it's in the past. Maybe I should just look to the future.

Dawson is certainly brave. He just needs more of the footballing brains to go along with his bravery.
