Les Ferdinand, who was part of Tim Sherwood’s coaching team which took over first-team affairs for the second half of the last campaign, provided an insight into working with Dembele in December.
“We used to say to him [Dembele]: ‘You’re the next guy to go to Real Madrid from this club’,” said Ferdinand. “He’s got great ability, yet you just don’t see enough of it. He leaves you frustrated because you know he’s got more and you want to see it.”

Hopefully, the mindset has now changed with the Poch era, but did the management (debatable) WANT to sell our best players to Madrid?

Disturbing, if so.

I remember him saying it and it came across as a joke. But I don't doubt it was said in passing in a funny way.

Plus who isn't Madrid's feeder club? Barca? remember Figo? United? remember Ronaldo? Milan? Remember Kaka?

Everybody sells to Madrid.

And lets be honest, if it had been able to make him raise his game and believe in his own ability more, who gives a shit?

Know what you are saying, but I take the sentence as being entirely defeatist from the clubs global standing viewpoint and their ability to retain their best players. I'd be massively reluctant to do anymore deals with Madrid, regardless as to sums offered - especially for Hugo or someone who is integral to our play and results.

I really don't think we need to be taking it that seriously, but with someone like Dembele, he has unbelievable natural ability but too often poor execution when it matters, if you can get him to raise his game by saying he's got all the tools to do anything he wants in the game, then I don't see an issue.

We have to remember that, to a man, the vast majority of players and coaching staff won't be Spurs.

Also though, when we sit here and say Eriksen could play for any team in the world, are we being defeatest or are we just recognising that we're lucky to have him? Or when we say Hugo deserves to be playing in the CL?

Ferdinand use to say the same to Tim.

He once told him, after a successful run of games last season, that he'd overheard Levy taking phone calls and utter 'Madrid', 'Sherwood' and 'End of the season' in the same sentences. Les used to remind him, saying "You're the next guy to go to Madrid from this club" (y)

Turns out it was actually 'get rid' of 'Sherwood' at the 'end of the season'.... :cautious:

Poor Tim.

Rumour has it that Ancelotti now tells his players that if they continue to play well they could play alongside Harry Kane one day

Oh cool. This one again. As if this topic hasnt been discussed ad nauseum. It's like beating a dead horse. For some reason, we continue to do it.

Totally agree with this - it's a non point

Of course we're not a feeder club, but I think it says volumes that the only time we've sold significant first team players (that we'd have liked to hold onto) in recent years is to the two richest (possibly biggest) clubs in the world for major cash.

That tells you we're not far off

This topic is surely done now isn't - no offense to the original poster, but we've done it to death

id be more worried if Tim gets the QPR job and starts to look at our youth promise of 1st team footy in the prem would be hard to turn down

I would be more glad though if we can loan our youth players to them. TBF, what Sherwood did to Bentaleb was commendable and if he can do similar to other youth players, I don't see why not (provided it is a loan)

Hadn't seen it discussed before. But if you don't wanna hear about it again, why bother reading it?!
