Given Aurier’s involvement in that incident, I’m flabbergasted it took Poch so long to take him off the field.

Aurier and Son’s welfare should be priority number one there

How on earth did Son see red not Aurier. Son’s was an innocuous bad tackle, Aurier mutilated the guy, which was inevitable as he flies in like that every time. He’s a monster and i am ashamed he plays for us. I will never support this player.
I will say again. Has anyone actually seen what Aurier is supposed to have done? The replay was frozen before contact so I for one have no idea.

I don't think aurier did it either. I think his leg was behind him when aurier made his challenge. I think it was just an accident.

That was Aurier following through if anything, no way Son could have done that with that angle. If it’s his ankle though it’s probably the way he’s fallen trying to evade the Son tackle.
I done exactly the same thing to an oppo player years ago when I went through the ball and player but when he came down that was when he done his ankle, nothing to do with the tackle actually injuring him.
Good luck to Gomes as he’ll be out for a while with that though.

I might be wrong but I rewinded the incident and it looks pretty clear to me that his studs got stuck in the ground but his leg continued the momentum.

so did he give the yellow and then immediately change to a red based on VAR?

Seemed that way. I think everyone panicked basically. They had ages to make the decision but went quickly with it and based it on the injury and the anger from some Everton players. All natural reactions in the heat of the moment and exactly why the ref should have taken his time

One of Moura, Alli or (preferably) Eriksen needs to come off. We need some energy in the middle.

VAR gave the red.
That's what I thought too, as Atkinson only gave a yellow first. But VAR could've overruled a red card decision if Atkinson's the one who decided, I was correcting someone who thought VAR didn't overturn reds

If Son's is a red given by VAR, then Ndombele should have been sent off for that tackle on Delph, the only thing that's influenced that decision is what happened afterward to Gomes.
