Well hopefully we make it to that 'highest level' he talks about in the next few years then

Until then, the headline doesn't match the quote. As usual

That's about the best you can hope for when looking for some commitment from a player these days. Good on him.

2nd in the premier league, the best league in the world, qualified for the CL, that's pretty damn close.

I think he is our biggest risk this summer because if Barca are in for him he almost certainly will be off.

Typical journo-spin. There is a world of difference between:

you [meaning "I"] cannot say no to Barcelona

...and what he actually said:

I do not think there are many who say no to Barcelona [but I might]

Further, I would wager that the unedited transcript has quite a bit of verbiage in between this bit:

I do not think there are many who say no to Barcelona.

And this bit:

In the future I see myself at the highest level.

Because what follows on is this bit:

That is what I dream about. It can be in about two to three years. It may be in another club or it could be Tottenham if we have come all the way up.

All spin and crafty editing.

Excuse me Christian we've all said no to Barcelona
(though I admit that Real Madrid is my second team)

He is very good player indeed but not marquee enough signing for Barca imo. I don't expect offers for him from Catalans.

It must be very difficult for any footballer being interviewed. Journalists are trained in trapping them to say something that can be made to be taken differently from what was said.

I'm sure that all of us like to put loyalty to the club high on the list. However, regular first team games, winning trophies and wages are high on the list of players and imo, quite rightly so.

Whatever interpretation we put on it, I suspect that Erikson was simply trying to answer the question without worrying we fans and at the same time trying to find a way to say he was flattered by Interest from such a big club.

When I read a journos report written in a way that is courting controversy, I tend to disregard it.

Just my opinion
