You look at what most pundits say about Sunday and most are saying that the main culprit of the defensive shambles was Romero. Dier has not been good in the last half of this season but Romero has been equally bad but for some reason gets a free pass.
Who are these analysts? I watched a bit of the MOTD piece where there was consensus on Dier’s culpability for needlessly setting off the short chain of events that led to the opener. He also has no idea where Isak is for his first, where his only chance was to play him off- he was never catching the fcker was he?

Just like Porro lost Joelinton and got pummelled for it.

It’s Dier that gets the free pass.

...and this is someone who at 29 years of age is supposedly a senior player, who has been at the club/league for nearly decade.

Because they are the best players in their respective positions.
If someone can score goals then by all means take Son out. But we have no such option. Richy doesn't score goals and is having a bad season anyway.
If Forster is better than Hugo then please play him; he isn't.
You can't try new things for the sake of trying. Newc thrashing shows that.
...and here we are, hierarchial thinking.

Lloris can concede 6 goals some of which appeared, as Alli commented, 'to go through him', but Forster can't be considered a starter.

It's the refusal of the evidence of eyes in favour of an abstract truth based on some predetermined hierarchial worth which may or may not apply now .

Under this concept Kulu is a better player than Danjuma so no matter how ineffective he is no starts...no matter how knackered Skipp seems , Sarr same. Why is Richie not tried as a starter and has scored plenty in the past , how are these players to find their rhythm ?

Newcastle was a new system not new players and is an argument for change.. 6-1.. Keep the same players ?

Yes it's hierarchial thinking. Hierarchy exists because of track records. It is possible that that record no longer applies now, so I'm not saying what you proposed isn't possible.

It's completely possible that a fresh player (e.g. Danjuma) can come in and immediately look better than Kulu. He is likely more motivated and has less mental baggage. However it is unlikely that Danjuma is a fundamentally better player than Kulu; that his strengths outweighs his weaknesses in the context of the team. Therefore if you play him then you would need to compensate elsewhere. It's up to the coach to set it up so that this can pay off. However the chances are low. If the solution was as simple as playing other players then it would have been done. It's free and easy to implement. I think this is where Mason comes in, because he knows the players so he is more likely to make a prudent call when it comes to changes like that.

With regards to specific players:
LLoris: were there individual errors? Has he been on a slippery slope? I don't think so. He's definitely regressed over the years mind you, but Forster isn't a better GK.
Sarr: hardly played, can't judge. Worth throwing the dice? Maybe, but the evidence suggests that getting it wrong would result in a huge beat that would cost your head; as Stellini has paid.
Richy: hasn't had a good season. Not even close to Kane's scoring prowness. Works hard and is aggressive, but he cannot carry this team. Kane's also been scoring.

Newcastle loss was a new system yes, but more to do with lack of trust, low morale and not taking responsibility. Which is what happens when you are on a slippery slope.

Loads of them, just look online and Romero rightly gets a complete kicking for his can't give a toss performance.. He was the main culprit for the first goal. Just let the guy go past him with his hands stuck behind his back. Just to be clear I don't think Dier played well either and was at fualt for 1 of the goals.

Bang average player and below average defender. Has no spacial awareness or anticipation. We cant reward him with a new contract and be taken seriously.

Fucking pathetic.

If he gets a new contract it’ll epitomise everything that’s wrong with this club. He can’t defend 1v1 for shit

I await Levy to renew his contract because replacing him and buying a new defender will cost him dearly.
Very interesting to see what Levy does.

As you say not renewing/replacing him means spending serious money. Maybe he’ll finally realise that it costs even more in the long run, if you don’t replace the average players and just get elite managers in!!

I'm deadly serious when I say he is no better than Holding. Utter garbage. Can't believe we are have been trying to build a defence around this oaf for the last few seasons. He can go be a nice guy and show he cares at Everton or Southampton. Don't want this clown at the club next season.
