Poch never played Dier as a centre back for 4-5 seasons, does this not alone demonstrate that the only person who thinks Dier is a centre back is Dier himself!
Poch did play Dier at CB. 31 times in all comps in our best ever season (16/17) for example (plus another 17 in DM).

Just when you think we saw the last of him he’s back starting games again because of our injuries. To be honest I just want him to go like he was originally planning to. Now he’s getting game time again maybe he will change his mind and want to stay. We were looking so good before the Chelsea game in defense and would have picked up another 3 points against wolves if we had VDV and Romero. These fine margins are going to cost so dearly. We need to ride the storm that is coming because we have nobody with experience that can play there.

I am not sure you understand the concepts of:

A. Out of Contract

and

B. VDV and Romero were not available, and DIer was the next best alternative

Dier will leave at the end of the season - because he will be out of contract, but while he is here, he will fill in when required.

What's he like on set-pieces? If he wasn't ready for the Championship, how have we made him Prem ready within a few months?

This idea that Dier not being good enough therefore we should throw a teenager to the wolves is crazy to me.

Look how quickly fans lost confidence in Skipp. He went from being a future first teamer to will never be good enough within a few months.

Some bad performances by Phillips will not help him.
IMHO, it's great we play Skipp early to know the limitation he has, if not his chance will never come and he will forever be stuck in U21 while everyone of us are dreaming of him coming good.

It's the same we played Udogie and VdV first competitive game for us in the first game of the season. Turns out they are nailed on starters since.

I know they were playing in Bundesliga and Serie A before that, but Dele was playing in MK Dons before starting for us and never looked back too.

Good players will seldom suffer because of a few bad games started in a high quality, competitive game. In fact if we can know what's his actual performance be like, we can plan even better for the coming window, depending on whether Phillips does stay and be the competent backup to VdV or we seriously need a solid CB to come in while we think what will be a good next step for Phillips in the future.

For me, the pros definitely outweigh the cons in playing Phillips over Dier. There could be positive uncertainty. The one thing I'm sure in playing Dier is the same mistake in him will always be occurring. His reluctance to press and play from the back will collapse the whole structure of Ange play. Most players who are pressing high will never get back in time to help him out if he keeps isolating behind because of his hesitance and being slow. He's that bad of a fit to our game now

But he wasn’t the next best alternative. He’s the most experienced, but we should certainly be given our younger CBs a go as Dier will never have the pace for this system.

This is what a lot of people ignore in this situation. You can’t just throw kids to the wolves and hope it all works out.
I hear you, but we didn't throw the kids to the Wolves, Dier and Davies were thrown to the Wolves and we shipped in two late goals and lost 2-1....😉

We didn't play Skipp early.

We gave him a season on loan in the Championship when he was 20 where he got in the team of year.

Aged 21 he started playing a part in our 1st team squad on the back of that season.

We didn't just chuck him in as an 18 year old with fuck all experience like some want us to do with Phillips.

Play a high line with him marking Watkins next game - I'm sure it'll be fine
It's the second game in the PL that I'm taking my nephew to apart from the Shakhtar Donesk friendly. He still bears the nightmare of his first game being a last minute near last kick of the game home defeat to Bournemouth 3-2 last season in April.

Taking him to see a Dier v Watkins high line match up makes me wince at the thought of his viewing and matchday experience....I never like to wish an injury on a player but I'm hoping that Watkins picks up a knock on international duty and is unavailable for selection against us, and while we're at it a slight injury in training or a heavy cold sees Dier having to sit this one out too....

A club that puts itself in a position to have to play Dier in a high line when we lose our two main CB’s has only itself to blame. Feels like we have handicapped our own season by being dumb. It’s incredibly frustrating as this was such an obvious concern in the summer.
