We didn't play Skipp early.

We gave him a season on loan in the Championship when he was 20 where he got in the team of year.

Aged 21 he started playing a part in our 1st team squad on the back of that season.

We didn't just chuck him in as an 18 year old with fuck all experience like some want us to do with Phillips.
you’ve been making the same point for at least 24hrs now. Again and again and again.

It’s clear what your view is and it’s clear other people have different opinions

Those saying we should have replaced Dier in the summer are right and I agree, however there are several issues to this.
  1. Does x player want to come
  2. Does x player have the right character
  3. Does x player want to be a first team starter
  4. Is the fee too high for the type of player
It's all very well saying we should have but how do we know we didn't try (I think we did with the links to Kelly for example) but maybe one of the above issues couldn't be resolved.

I'm not absolving Levy of this as I do think he is somewhat to blame, however all I'm saying is maybe the right player, with the right character for the right price/wages just wasn't available at the right time, add in having to juggle squad size etc. I think we need to be looking at the bigger picture and that right player will come either in Jan or Summer and that we will be in much better place come the close of the summer transfer window next year.

And people have been making the same points responding to me, again and again and again.

Are you going to pick them out?

And the biggest thing of all, Dier simply didn’t want to move. Which is his right. I’m not going to lambast him for that.

But Phillips has experience, he's played 8 senior games in the Championship, 3 National Cup and 3 League Cup games, so its not like he's come from the U21s and thrown straight in is it?

That barely more experience than me.

Spoiler, I'm not a professional footballer.

I think the key issue was shifting players. We couldn't get Sanchez or Dier out the door soon enough. We had too many players to register come the end of the window. We simply didn't have space available for 1 more centre back. Now Sanchez is gone we should have space to move quickly in Jan. I just hope we don't spend too much time haggling on the fee. It's time to be aggressive for this key position.

I guess its like any work experience though, if you don't get the chance to actually get experience, you can never be experienced. If he's good enough, play him.

It's a bit like working for Mcdonalds then going straight into being head chef for a 5 star restaurant as a teenager.

The point is only fans who haven't seen him play want us to play him. The coaches don't.

And herein lies the rub, if Ange doesn't want to play him and thinks Eric and Ben are the answer to the current situation, then so be it.

I don't think he thinks they are the answer. I think he thinks they are the best short-term option for right now.

The answer was buying a quality 3rd choice centre back in the summer, which almost all of us were asking for. This isn't a situation we didn't see coming.

But as we can't go back in time, we have to make the best of a bad situation, of our own making.

I do accept that, which is why I don't just want him thrown in at the deep end.
We have to play him at some point though. Unless we loan him he's not going to gain that experience. I'll trust Ange for sure though. I'm just not sure when is the time tot play him otherwise. Maybe the fa cup in January but that's 2 months away and if he does well will be wishing he played now. I'd rather he play while the expectation is down now rather than waste more time on Dier.

I really hope he gets loaned out. I'm hoping he's here for a few months to settle in and for the new manager to have a look at him and get to know him.

Then loan him out to get some experience.

I think regular football is more beneficial than the occasional cup appearance.

If the Bayern interest is real I don't see him staying until the summer, not if they want him January.
I reckon he'll jump at that opportunity.

We were told Kelly was available though, and wanted to come and it wasn't a big price and levy said no once again. If we had Kelly at least he suits the high line and would mitigate the loss of VDV somewhat.
