1000% based on what? At least Maguire can win a header in a set piece which Dier is constantly at fault for. Both have their weaknesses but Maguire would start in our team over Dier every day of the week.

I would never choose Maguire. He’s terrible and has been caught out more often then people realise.

Dier is not good enough & clearly needs upgrading. But he is 1000% better than Harry Maguire. So by that metric, he deserves to play for England again.
Under a good manager Maguire could be a really decent player. He's a much better passer than Dier and also way more comfortable on the ball. He's just become a meme these past few weeks as United's entire team are a disjoined mess low on confidence and out of form. He's not worth the money United paid for him and he makes mistakes, but I think pound for pound he's been much better than Dier over the past few years.

Dier was great today, though. Hopefully Conte can get the best out of him and make him into a top defender.

And Dier hasn’t been caught out? I’m not stating that Maguire is amazing. I’m merely pointing out that he is a much better defender than Dier is, despite still having his faults. See attached a comparison between the two from last season(Source - Sqwuaka).

As mentioned below, he isn’t worth the money they paid for him but up until the start of this season, he was one of Uniteds best performers defensively. Their whole team has been a shit show this season and I have no doubt that their new manager will be building their defence around him yet again.

Over the course of the next few months, I personally see Dier improving under Conte a hell of a lot and eventually winning his spot back into the England squad.

I understand why some dont like Dier or dont think he is good enough, I personally think he is good, maybe not first choice but definitely good enough for our squad going forwards.

The last two years Dier has been part of poor management which hasnt allowed him to be at his best. He gets the ball, he has no options but to hoof and the opposition have so much of the ball, he is under intense pressure that he will no doubt make mistakes. I think all these skew statistics and those statistics without context, yes, makes him look poor and I dont think he is poor.

We will need five defenders in our squad to keep up with three at the back, he is definitely good enough to be one of those five. Also we talk about passion, he has some of that.

Good performance. The more settled the side and the defence, the better he will be.

No silly mistakes today either.

I thought he had a very good game, although if that free kick was a worked out routine, (our players in the wall creating space to shoot through) he got cocked it right up, but got lucky with a deflection. We really need a set-piece taker in the first 11.

He was quality yesterday. With the ball and off the ball.

The middle CB-spot really suits him. If he keeps going like this, Conte could be thinking he doesn't need 3 new CBs after all..

Erik Dier comes across as a great guy, so I’d be more than happy for him if this is the start of something(time will tell). He was by far our best player yesterday, did his defensive job and seemed to be moving the ball forward well.

I thought Dier was great yesterday, particularly as he was the one driving the team forward when everyone else was passing backwards.

Hopefully him and Sanchez and getting some confidence back now and have something to build on.

He played well yesterday but worth remembering Leeds had no Bamford, I doubt he will face a blunter attack all season.

Conceding from set pieces has been a huge weakness for us. And Dier has been a key part of that problem.
It was one if the chief reasons I wanted us to go 3ATB under Nuno
Now Conte has correctly changed us to 3ATB, I'm hoping the extra CB can help us get stronger in this vital area
Last couple of games have gone well there, but we didn't face Calvert Lewin or Bamford
Burnley will be a really tough test I reckon, hope Dier and Co are upto it.

It was his best game in months. Prob best game since moving to CB

He was passing the ball through the gaps along the floor at every opportunity and was solid. I think Romero will he good at RCB so we just need a left centre back who plays like a left back that is quick to cover diers lack of pace

Has struggled ever since his appendicitis and subsequent complications. He has the right mentality, hopefully Conte’s fitness team can help him sort his fitness out and get him back to his best.
