I take it that very few of you will have seen the Maurice Setters tackle that broke Dave Mackay's leg the first time. That really was sickening and deliberate.

Yesterday's incident was clumsy, late and had no malicious intent but it was, nevertheless, really unfortunate and the injury does look severe.

I could never wish that on any player, no matter what team shirt they wear.

TBH I would be surprised if he makes a full return.

To break all three bones around such a key joint is sorry sorry news for a footballer.

I'm similar dude, so many internet videos watched & visits to Ogrish back in the day, but one video had me feeling so sick I had to lay down for a few hours... some teenage lad in american smashed in his 'maxilla' during a bmx stunt, it was grim.

Shame that Orgrish disappeared (I know it became Live Leak which just isn't the same site at all.) Some of the vids were horrific yet strangely compelling. I remember seeing that bmx vid well, was pretty bad. The beheading ones were the only vids that really turned my stomach though. Man that was some horrific shit.

On topic it was a bad injury but some people are way over reacting on here. I must admit if it had been to Eboue, Adebayor or even Gallas i would have felt no sympathy whatsoever.
I had a compound fracture of my left tib and fib after falling 40ft off a roof when i was 15. Put me in plaster for 8 months but other than a slight numbness around left ankle from a severed nerve it healed perfectly. I'm sure he will be fine. Some of the people on here are acting like his leg has been ripped off ffs

3 bones??? Am i missing something here? There are only 4 bones in the whole of your leg (not including foot)

Femur - the thigh bone
Patella - the knee cap
Tibia - the larger of the two leg bones located below the knee cap
Fibula - the smaller of the two leg bones located below the knee cap

he broke his Tibia and Fibula. If he hasn't suffered any serious tissue damage i'd be a lot more surprised if he doesn't make a full return to fitness.

The Talus is a foot bone that meets the Tib and Fib and is not strictly in the 'leg'. Splitting hairs here i know.
But anyway he only broke his tib and fib is what i was getting at originally.

Yeah, the talus became detached from the tib and fib.

The reason this injury is so much more serious than, say, Cisse's or Larsson's is that it's basically involved the complete destruction of the ankle joint.

Any which way, though, I wish him a speedy recovery.

Ah, i'd read it was just a break. If that's true he could be in a lot more trouble. Lots of torn tendons and ligaments. Ouch!

Poor fucker for the break, although you can see that it wasn't intended, just a touc late and seriously unlucky.

He looked pretty sickened as he saw Eduardo laying on the floor.

Some good articles today about Wegner immediate reaction for being banned for life, and his turning a blind eye to his own players nasty tackles..

One of my Gooner mates who is astute when it comes to football reckonned this lad had the capacity to be better than Fabregas .

Adversity can be a motivator but even if he is able to resume playing , his peak of potential must have been lowered .

A real pity .

Good luck son .

Really? We're talking about the 25-year-old Eduardo here right? Who to all intents purposes is a 'fox in the box' finisher and not much else...

I find it massively unlikely that even without this injury he would ever be in the same league as someone like Fabregas...

As to the actual challenge. Clumsy yes, malicious no. I find it highly unlikely we'll see Eduardo, at the top level at least, again.

There have been far worse challenges committed by far worse people, and I feel sorry for both the lads involved. It isn't nice knowing you've done that much damage to someone because you were slow.

Far worse were Flamini's attempt to end Nani's career after his showboating and John Terry and Frank Lumpard's late lunges on Fabregas and Berbatov (yesterday) respectively, who were both prone on the ground...

Oddly, I don't think any of these even recieved a booking (Terry might have...)

Eduaro's injury is not that bad.

My mate had a horse fall on his leg, it had more bends in it than the Monte Carlo rally. Still I had a full on convo with him while we waited for the medics and he was laughing about it with me. The pain only really kicked in when they straightened it to place him on the ambulance trolley.

He was 13 at the time.

I've had my leg broken more than 7 times. Bones heal. In fact jagged breaks heal better than clean breaks. It's nothing serious. Eduardo's issue will be with the tissue damage. Or if the bone heals with a haematoma (spelling)

So 8 times then?
