Also, now that Ronaldo has gone on the record as staying with ManU, this could end the chances of a ManU bid, leaving only Barca as realistic bidders.

I would most certainly agree with this. I cannot see United coming foward with a £28m bid for Berba now that their cash cow is staying put.

Barca? Maybe. Now that Adebayor is staying put perhaps Berba is the main target. But it's a high price for a La Liga club to pay. Especially that the future of Etoo is still unresolved.

I thought Roma were going after Eto'o. Could there be Barca representatives at the game on the weekend to do BOTH deals?

*cue endless conspiracy posts and numerous sightings of 'clearly Spanish' people at WHL on the weekend*

Dude, you know as well as i do, if there's even one slightly swarthy looking fella in a suit within 500 yards of Levy or any of his henchmen, it'll be assumed he's a rep from the Nou Camp here to steal away Dimi to millions of fans - Newsnow will be a'ringing with rumours on clubcall/fansfc/some other random weblog

We've got three weeks of this madness left - i might dress up in a suit and get a seat in the West stand then spend the afternoon talking with a Dutch accent, continually saying, "Hey, friend, that Lennon ish good, ja? He'd love Amshterdam, but he'sh been hafink troubles finding a plache to rent before the shtart of the league... shtill, we'll shee, eh? ja ja ja ja!"

That's possibly the worst Dutch accent i ever did... i need to work on that.

Frankly you would be wasting your time, you need to look for 'clearly Catalan' people.*

If Berbs is to go i would sooner he went to Barca than Manure, prehaps we could also upset the Arse a bit , by seeing if Bojan Krkic could be part of the deal

Juande Ramos spoke to Catalanian Sport about Berba, Arshavin and Eto'o.

Prompt translator:

Juande: "Nobody of the Barca has asked me for Berbatov” The technician of the Tottenham makes sure that next week there will be movements on the soccer market Juande Ramos and his Tottenham they monopolize in these moments the interest of the soccer market. The London club is immersed in the center of all kinds of rumors. Multitude of contacts assumes to Juande, at the time that his star, Berbatov, is one of the most coveted pieces. The technician of La Mancha made use of the SPORT call to speak about some proper names and to clear several doubts. First of all, to everything those that speculate on the possible arrival of Berbatov al Camp Nou, Juande Ramos sends to them a message.“ Nobody of the Barca has asked me for Berbatov. Me no movement consists on this matter. Only I know what has gone out for the press”. With regard to the future of his star, the technician limited himself to pointing out that “we are in expectation of events. It is a question of waiting a little more and of seeing how it finishes everything”. Another proper name linked to two clubs is that of Samuel Eto'o. “I can only say that in these moments I do not know anything about him. We have a list of forwards and work on her, not on what the journalists or the representatives say”. A list in which there appears Arshavin, a Russian forward by whom also the Barca has been interested.“ They have said many things to themselves and the half they are not true. The representatives have to do his work in this epoch. The truth is that the Tottenham has not recorded Arshavin. It is not up to me to say if it is close or far, what yes I repeat is that we have not recorded Arshavin”. Juande Branch claimed a little more of patience and emphasized that it will not be up to the next week when the market will give a last one I overturn important. “If we look in general lines, the Tottenham has been the team that has given more game this summer. Anyway, the big clubs will stop outlining his staff next week. Champions League is there and some leagues start immediately. I do not wait for many surprises but yes there have to be some interesting movements of last hour”.

Not a chance. He's the new Messi, not that they are similar players, but in the way that he is a young prodigy coming through the youth system that has been brilliant for the first team since being introduced. Dos Santos was another one but they were willing to let him go.

Ramos: No Barça Contact About Berbatov

Juande Ramos has stated that he has not had any contact with Barcelona over Dimitar Berbatov, but refused to rule out the fact that the Bulgarian could still leave the club.

177_thumb.jpg

The Lilywhites' head coach explained where the north London club stand in the summer transfer dealings and hinted that he could be biding his time until the major clubs in Europe have finished buying and selling.

Berbatov has been at the centre of much speculation over the summer with Manchester United and now Barcelona said to be interested, but Ramos was insistant that the Blaugrana had made no contact.

"Nobody from Barça has asked me about Berbatov. There has been no movement on that front. All I know is what I read in the papers," he told Sport.

"We will have to wait and see what happens. It is a question of waiting a bit more and then we wil see how things turn out.

"All I can say about that is that I know nothing about it either. We have a list of forwards and we are working on that, not on what journalists or agents are saying.

"Many things have been said and half of them are just not true. The representatives are doing their job at this stage. "

Tottenham have been linked to a host of players since the end of last season and have already signed several big names, including Heurelho Gomes, Luka Modric, Giovani Dos Santos and David Bentley and Ramos hinted that there could be more.

"If we look at things along general lines then Tottenham are the club that has been the busiest this summer," he continued.

"All the major clubs will finish changing their squads next week. The Champions League starts then and some leagues too.

"I do not expect many surprises, but there could be some interesting late moves."

In recent days, the north London outfit are said to have been locked in talks to sign Russian star Andrei Arshavin from Zenit Petersburg, but Ramos was keen to state that no deal had yet been done.

"The truth is that Tottenham have not signed Arshavin. I cannot say whether a deal is close or a long way off, but I have to repeat that we have not signed him," he added.

What are you talking about, everything you have said there is wrong. Manchester United needed to sign a striker regardless of the Ronaldo situation, Sir Alex said all along that Ronaldo was staying and we have still been pursueing Berbatov. We have just won the Champions League and Premier League and have also sold players like Pique and soon Saha so the finances is not a problem

You need to understand that Barcelona are not in the market for a striker unless Etoo leaves, and all the comments coming from Barcelona suggest that the cameroon striker is staying. It is clear that Manchester United is the only possible destination for Berbatov, otherwise he stays at Spurs

Or £35m, for that matter.;-)

If Levy backs down from his previous valuation of Berbatov, he's a **** of the highest order.

Turnabout is fair play

Just a couple of thoughts.

1) The best way for Berbs to get a top transfer to a top club is to overperform! Nobody wants a sulker. Even if that is his "body language", do you think any manager would tolerate it. No way. If Berbs wants a top transfer, he must swagger like a top striker and stop the "body language". A top player lifts his teammates.

2) I have seen lots of people on here moaning the DL better not lower his valuation of Berbs ("If Levy backs down from his previous valuation of Berbatov, he's a **** of the highest order"). This is a 2 way street. We can't expect Zenit to drop their valuation and give us Arshavin, while at the same time we get to state a price and stick by it. We just can't have it both ways. If we intend to stick by a price, we should be prepared to have the same tactic played against us. If we want Arshavin, stump up or go home. Set the example for how we expect to do transfers. If we want to haggle, expect to be haggled.

3) The timing of the Keane transfer f**ked the Arshavin deal.

Completely agree, but I've never said Zenit should lower their asking price, they are completely within their rights to do so, in my opinon.

That said, the difference between the Berba and Arshavin 'deals', though, is that Berba hasn't put in a transfer request, I believe Arshavin has. He's publicly demanded it!

Fair enough. I don't know that either of them have handed in a formal transfer request, but I think they are both behaving unprofessionally. I was actually let down when Arshavin started pouting like Berba to get his way. As a manager, this would make me take a second look at my potential new hire's attitude.

Ferguson keen to sign new striker

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to sign a new striker before the start of the Premier League season next week.
"We are looking at three or four different options in the striking department which I hope will come to a happy conclusion," said Ferguson.
"Hopefully we will have someone in for the start of the season."

The Sun story: Ferguson said they hope to sign a new striker before the start of the season. Berbatov has been their man transfer target. Hence, Berbatov is on his way to Man U.

That is to say, their story is based mainly on logic, and not so much on inside information. In a week time we will probably know it.

A real solution to the Berba to Man U saga would be only if they signed another striker. Because if they don't sign another striker now, they will come for Berba January and he won't be motivated to play at his best in order to drop the price and force a transfer during the next transfer window.

BTW, Berba was at Anfeeld last night to watch Liverpool vs Lazio. A Bulgarian site claims that tv cameras have shown him sitting there.
