Redknapp quoted on BBC Sport as an admirer of Forlan, the kind of player we need but ruled out because of high wages. Would be a high class addition though I believe he is 30+ so unlikely . Shame as I think he would be a great signing.

Spurs insist Forlan wage bill would leave them out of pocket

HARRY REDKNAPP has said he won't be signing Diego Forlan because of his wages, although the Tottenham boss has already lost money scouting the striker.

Last Thursday, Redknapp and assistant Kevin Bond watched Forlan's Atletico Madrid lose to Real but, in the process, Redknapp had his wallet stolen.

"I bought some sweets and the next thing there's two guys on their knees in front of me, tugging my trousers," revealed Redknapp.

"I'm going, 'let go', pushing them away. While I'm doing that they're rifling my pockets. 'I saw them do it,' Kevin said. 'Well why didn't you do something about it?!' I said. I hope Kev wasn't part of the gang! He's got a few quid on him today!"

Redknapp said Spurs' hopes of signing David Beckham on loan are fading and the midfield player is expected to return to the Los Angeles Galaxy on February 10. "I can't see it, it is doubtful," he said.

On Forlan, Redknapp said: "We are not going to get near their wages. He is on £100,000-plus a week. The chairman (Daniel Levy) would not be paying £100,000 or more a week to players."

Tottenham travel to face Newcastle today; however, they won't come up against another striker who they have been linked with -- Andy Carroll -- as the Magpies hitman has failed to recover from a thigh injury

Too similar to vdV and too expensive for his age.

Excellent player though, just not for us.

I am not sure why Redknapp was talking about him or what point he was trying to make. He is on a 100k per week, surely some sort of due diligence would have found that out and then we don't pursue him and focus on a more obtainable target.

I don't think he flew to Madrid to find out what Forlan's wages are. There is something going on here but it may not be directly linked to Forlan.

The press just putting 2 and 2 together. They know Harry wanted him in the summer, had a number of quotes on him then. So being at the derby the other day, was bound to be asked. Personally I don't think we're in for him at all. Love it to be Aguero, unlikely though.

Can't see a striker coming this window.

Aguero maybe? People saying that when Torres left he signed a new contract, lowering transfer fee clause. The same has just happened with Aguero.

I honestly think Forlan is less likely than Aguero because of his age and I do not think Aguero is likely either.

If we were bringing in Suarez it would be great to also sign Forlan on loan so they could link up and help each other settle in.

Forlan could swap with VDV for the attacking role and at times VDV could drop to RM with Lennon starting on the bench.

Can't see it happening but it would be a real statement of intent by Levy if deals of this magnitude were to be made.

I just hope we can get Keane off the books asap, the more his moves drags on the more I think he is just gonna see out his contract sitting on the bench and laughing with his wage packet.

Lennon is a most to start, his pace assists and now goals dictates a starting place. Suarez like mentioned above is very similar to Tevez / Rooney he would slot nicely into our team. Arry I hope was in Madrid to watch Benzema a player within our pool of realistic targets.

Adebayor is the dark horse, IMO he would be a monster striker playing alongside Van De Vaart they'd probably end up fighting one another on the field but footballing wise complement each other...if only City would sell to us.

I suspect that we aren't after Forlan, but that after being asked a question about him Harry thought it'd be good to talk about him to the media and get their excitement up, to give us a bit of breathing room on our other targets.

Not that I don't think Forlan would be a good signing, but he's too old to be a number 1 Levy target, so I suspect this is a smokescreen.

Although based on latest ITK, I may be proven wrong!

He's obviously over in Madrid working on a deal to bring CR7 and Aguero to Tottenham. I heard Ronaldo is sick of Mourinho and is ready to move to Spurs and Aguero life long dream is to play for the mighty lilywhites. Nailed on bound to happen type shit.

I can't see us getting him because of the money involved at his age and the wages. We would never get any pecuniary return on him. However, should he still be fit and hungry enough, he would be perfect. This man has been behind only Eto'o and Villa as far as centre forwards go in the past half decade, and he lacks nothing. Quick, strong, great on the ball, good in the air, has vision and a lethal finisher. Pace aside, he's probably as close a player as there is to Teddy Sheringham.

Uncanny, Freeeki!

Forlan is starting right now vs. Sporting Gijon so doesn't look like anything is imminent regardless!

But Aguero's injured and Forlan's the only forward along with Diego Costa, so maybe he needed to play.

New itk from Roger Morgan is interesting, id love Forlan, i know he is 32 but for a few years whist we go for a young top quality striker he would be great for us i feel, sometimes you need instant quality rather than young stars.
