It's a difficult one because Wilson could barely hit a barn door last season too. And would cost 17 mill.

For me the two main criteria are aerial ability and hold up play.

I don't get you people. We desperately need someone this. Everyone turned their nose up at Giroud but look at what a fantastic option he is for Chelsea. Or Igahlo for Utd. Or Origi for Liverpool. All average players but all so much better than we have.

We literally have noone to bring on for Kane without destabilising the side. That's mental. I think Costa would be great to bring off the bench, especially when we are winning.

I don’t think it’s fair to say Diego Costa is shite now. He was prolific in his final season in the Premier League and suited Mourinho down to a tee.

There hasn’t been any gradual recession of his ability. He went back to Atletico and has not had a single good season for them. I think that suggests he hasn’t been able to readjust to Spain and the style of football Simeone plays rather than him becoming shit overnight. In fairness to Costa, strikers usually aren’t prolific under Simeone. Griezmann being the one outlier really.

Put it this way, if we are looking for a cheap striker who knows Mourinho, is happy to play a squad role and come off the bench with Lamela around the 70th minute mark and shit house teams, i’d take Costa wayyyyy before the likes of Deeney, Zahavi, Dzyuba, etc.

If we had money, then of course I’d be looking at the likes of Wilson or Milik before him.

No gradual recession? He’s got 10 goals in the last 2 years and he’s almost 32. He needs to be playing in the MLS, China or Qatar.

2018-2020
Alvaro Morata - 18 league goals
Saul Niguez (midfielder) - 10 league goals
Angel Correa (winger) - 8 league goals
Koke (midfielder) - 7 league goals
Diego Costa - 7 league goals
Thomas (defensive midfielder) - 6 league goals

Costa’s goal return is pathetic.

I still think this is missing the point. How many goals did Llorente score and he helped us get to a CL final. We have Kane, Son, Moura, Bergwijn etc to get us goals, what we need is a plan b. Someone to bring on and hold the ball up if we are winning, someone to cover for Kane and still offer a threat whilst helping out Son etc. Cost's game benefits out squad and that's what matters not some amazing goal scorer who doesn't fit in our side.

How the hell would he be at the training ground if he has recently tested positive for COVID ?

My only issue is that the role of any new striker we sign isn't just going to be to fill in for Kane off the bench. We've potentially got 50+ games this season and Kane is pretty injury prone at this point.

There's a decent chance our back up striker will be starting 15/20 games, potentially against top opposition, and I'm not sure Costa is really good enough for that anymore, especially with VAR.

When I say there’s no gradual recession, I mean he went from being prolific at Chelsea to barely scoring at Atletico in the space of a year. You’d usually see numbers dwindle down slowly if they’re getting old and ineffective. Obviously I could be wrong but I’d say the sudden change, rather than a gradual one, is more down to him not readjusting than him just suddenly becoming a bad striker.

Like I say depends what you want him to do. Good enough to be Kane, no he isn't. Good enough to keep the balance of the squad though, hold up the ball well and occupy a defence for others to score. More important infinitely better than what we have which is nothing.

I thought it was Milik tbh.

I think it is too.

Im not sure Costa would survive the PL now with VAR. He’d be a red card waiting to happen every game. Ath Madrid start Morata ahead of him too who isn't great. That’s a bit of a red flag.

From Alasdair:
Links with Mourinho's former striker Diego Costa are also believed to be wide of the mark as are ones with Burnley target man Chris Wood.

JJ’s under the radar “Dave” - David Neres?

Wouldn’t really fit the hold up #9 mold but could play along the front three. We know there have been talks with Ajax.

I’m pretty sure that was just the poster signing off his post with his name

Ah I though it was the poster being a wum.

When people refer to an itk posting, particularly when it’s a hidden twitter account, they really should post what he’s said.
