I’m sure it’s been discussed many times but the referee has way too much influence on a match. IMHO there should be more than 1, maybe 2-3, with each having responsibilities for different sections of the pitch or different aspects of play. Over the years other sports have adopted changes in their officiating. Being a Canadian I’m a hockey fan too and hockey went to 2 referees and 2 linesman over 20 years ago. Pigskin has increased their on field officials. I’m sure other sports have made similar adjustments to officiating and it’s time for football to end the referee as we know it.

There was contact on the player going through, but I don't think there was enough to bring him down.

And any dive is to cheat.

You know what I mean. I try to differentiate between a dive (no contact at all) and exaggerating contact (by falling theatrically after contact). This was the second. That contact, if seen, is given as a foul anywhere on the pitch. The reason players go down is because those fouls get missed.
