Very sad to see it end like this. But whilst we can "like" Pochettino as a character and think he did a good job with the club overall, it's clear to anyone who follows the club closely that he'd lost control and was unlikely to be able to turn things around. Sentiment is irrelevant, if he is no longer the best man for the job then the job must be removed, simple as that.

If you look at the other PL seasons in which we've had less than 15 points after this many games, you see a trend in 2008 (Ramos), 2004 (Santini), 2003 (Hoddle) and 1997 (Francis) where a manager has changed every time, so quite frankly I don't see why it comes as a shock to anyone. Even most of the crap mid-table / bottom half clubs in the Premier League would sack a manager that took 25 points from 24 games, so why anyone should have expected a team that's finished in the top 6 every year for the past decade (and top four in the majority of those) to act any differently is beyond me.

Could Poch have done better with better backing? Quite possibly. But even then, his record in the transfer market even when given money to spend has been highly inconsistent through his career, and regardless of personnel available, he has made some quite poor tactical decisions in big games. The CL run was great but we all know we massively rode our luck to get to the final and it's been a full year (November 2018) since our last PL win against another team in the top 6. People said Chelsea were wrong to sack Mourinho, that Leicester were wrong to sack Ranieri, even that Liverpool were wrong to sack Rodgers, because of what they'd "done". But it's not about the past, it's about the future, and all of those decisions have proven 100% correct.

Yes, it was fantastic to see Tottenham playing such good football from 2005-2008, but that had gone now. The press was gone. The players clearly didn't want to play for him any more. So with great regret, it was time to move on.

Agree with all these points. Great post.

I wonder how excited MediGangsta will be knowing we could be getting Mourinho. Its crazy to think at one point Mourinho was the most in demand head coach after winning the Champions league with Porto.

Don't be daft, Jose spent a fucking fortune at Man United and left them in complete chaos. Imagine what he could do with us. I actually think he'll be good for a few years, not the point though is it, we'll be broken, properly broken when he goes.
Man Utd were in compete chaos long before he joined though and hadn't had a piss poor squad handed down from Ferguson.

I see Gards is having a meltdown on Twitter ?. Would be so typical of Spurs to have an appalling start to the season, sack Poch, appoint Jose? finish 5th and win the FA Cup lol

I thought he spoke surprisingly well on us for the bits I heard. Need to hear it again but I suspect knowing him he’ll be on every channel and radio station going over the next day!

Came across slightly bitter towards end of interview on SSN when he started talking about knowing we talked to Rogers and Anchelloti when he was sacked..

I swear Spurs fans are just as allergic to trophies as the club itself. If a top manager like Mourinho who wins countless trophies at every club he is at becomes available, you would be stupid not to express an interest in him. He would be a major coup and would get the respect of every player in that team. We needed a change, it’s become incredibly stale under Pochettino and getting worse week by week.

We just cannot hire Jose Mourinho. We need to find someone that continues and establishes the same philosophy Poch had. We need a pressing, high tempo & ball playing manager. I'd take Chris Wilder over Mourinho ffs. Anyone but him.

Well it’s time. I’m sad too, for what Poch did for us and he’s such a likeable great guy but it was clear it was broken and there was no turning back.

People criticising the board need to understand they’ve made the difficult decision. The easy decision was to bury their heads in the sand, ignore all the evidence and pray he turned it around whilst we get dragged into a relegation battle. That’s why they are on the board and you’re not.

Mourinho would be brilliant. We need an elite manager not a project manager. Sure I wouldn’t say no to Nagelsman etc but I just feel at this time we need a win at all costs manager. if we got Mourinho it would show we mean business.
